Dazai couldn't believe his ears. There's now way that Kunikida would break up with such an amazing, talented and beautiful woman, let alone do it over the phone.
He believed her, ofcourse, she was his best friend, but he couldn't believe that his colleague was so pathetic, blind, cruel and idiotic. He was beyond angry. He was furious.
He backed away from her, his mind racing at why his stupid friend must have done this.
She mistook this gesture as a sign that he wasn't on her side in this issue. Her eyes welled up, and she mumbled out,
"Right.. You don't have to support me in this..  I'm pretty sure he's your close friend.. I understand.."
Dazai widens his eyes, stepping towards her.
"No, no, no! It's not like that at all. In fact, I'm on your side here. Kunikida's a colleague, but you're my closest friend. I was just thinking, that's all. Do you want me to talk to him? Ask him why?"
She shook her head.
"No, he told me why."
Both of them head to his apartment to talk about it, like they both usually do whenever either one is feeling down.

"He broke up with me because he has found someone else. He said that he just realized something about himself, and that led to him knowing for a fact that he didn't love me. He said that he was lying to himself all this time, and that I couldn't make him happy. Apparently, I never did make him happy."
She said, holding her cigarette between her fingers, and staring out at the night sky. Sat beside her was a puzzled and angry Dazai, holding his own roll of burning tobacco, and leaning against the railing of his balcony. He was facing her, his back to the beautiful scenery that his balcony offered, a benefit of owning a flat in a high rise building. He has a lot of money, thanks to his old job, and so he owned a couple of prime properties all over Yokohama and abroad. They weren't under his actual name, ofcourse. He used his aliases. It was a backup for when things go south. She was the only other alive human who was aware of this. He really liked her. He used to admire her earlier, he still does, but now he's infatuated, too. He always liked hanging out with her. She completely understood him. It was calming to be around her; her mere presence a blessing for him. She could listen to him when he needed to vent. He didn't even have to say it out loud, and she still knew that he was upset. He wasn't a man who held any guilt for his criminal actions, but he usually got upset over the fact that he couldn't save Oda. He's a sane man, he knows that he had little control over the situation, but sometimes, his mind decided to ignore all practical reasons and guilt trip him anyways. That's where she would come in the picture, and soothe him. She would hear him out. She'd patiently wait for him to calm down, and then, if he was okay to hear it, would utter a few words of wisdom to him. Then she'd shut up. But those few, well chosen words would always bring him back on track. To him, she was the whole world. She meant so much to him. He couldn't help but fall for her. But he knew that she didn't have any romantic feelings for him, so he kept his thoughts to himself.
"He's an idiot."
Dazai growls, his eyes unfocused.
She looks at him sternly, and shakes her finger.
"You are NOT going to hurt him. Don't even talk to him about it."
He gave you a flabbergasted look.
"You really expect me to do that? Do you not who I am? That bastard broke your heart! I am going to corner him, and give him a piece of my mind. I'll tell him, subtly, just how much I disapprove of his incredulously moronic actions."
Dazai looked at her with a dangerous gleam in his eyes.
"I'll show him how dangerous it is to play with someone's emotions. I'll make him pay."
