Chapter 2

***Syd's POV***
I wake up to my alarm clock blaring. It's too early to be awake. I roll out of bed and make my way to the bathroom where splash cold water on my face to wake myself up.
"Syd! Come eat some breakfast!" My mother yells.
I walk out into the kitchen and sit down at the table. I look at my brother and sister we all look like zombies. My mom hands me my breakfast. I poke at the eggs for a while trying to muster up the energy to put them in my mouth. We all sit in silence for a while till Ava(my little sis)breaks it.
"Mommy, is the bus gonna pick us up or do we get to ride with you?" She asks.
"Well since it's the first day of school I'll take you," my mom says with a smile "now it's time to get ready go, get dressed!"
We all scurry off into our rooms. I change out of my pjs into my outfit. I do my make up and hair like I always do. I stare at my self in the mirror. I was wearing a new pair of light jeans, graphic t-shirt and a red flannel. My hair boring brown hair was straightened.
"Syd," my mom says walking in my room, "I just got called into work early so I got to go now... Jared's in charge make sure you don't miss the bus."
"Well isn't that just a great start to the day, I hate the bus." I mumble.
"Honey I'm sorry, today will be great! I promise! Love you." she says kissing me on the head before walking out the room.
I check my self one last time before grabbing my shoes and going into the living room.
"Jared, Ava the bus is here!!" I yell. I pick up my backpack and shuffle my family out the door. The bus is loud like it always is, people talking about what they did over the summer and all that stuff. There is kids of all ages. We live in a small town so buses pick up kids for the 3 schools. Ava sits down in the front with some girls in elementary school. Jared goes to the back with the high school kids and then there's me. I sit in the middle with all the other awkward kids in middle school. I drop my bag in an empty seat and sit down. I pull out my phone and head phones and I listen to music trying to tune out everyone. I send a quick text to my best friend Riley to see what's up.
To Riley: hey... R u ready for school? I know I'm not!
To Syd: no I wanna crawl back in bed.😭
To Riley: we just have one more stop (I think) before we get to school I'll see ya there ttyl ✌️
The bus slows to a stop in front of the last house. 3 kids get on a little girl and two older boys. I've seen them all before the middle boy is my age. Hayes is the Football QB, super popular, and super cute. I think I'v only talked to him a few times because I was pretty shy, he probably didn't even know I existed...
***Hayes's POV***
The school bus stops in front of our house. Skylynn, me and Nash hop on. The bus is completely full. I find a spot next to Sydnee. She was gorgeous! She played sports and is amazing at them. I stood there standing like an idiot for a while just looking at her before I asked if I could sit. She had long brown hair, dark brown eyes and the cutest smile. I'm pretty sure she hates me though... I was a pretty big jerk when we were younger. She says I can sit so I do, damn she's cute.
***Syd's POV***
Hayes just asked to sit with me! What!? I said yes of course!! He was really cute. He had his brown hair spiked up in the front and his ice blue eyes were adorable. He would never go for me though.
To Riley:dude Hayes just asked to sit by me on the bus!
To Syd: like hottie hayes?? Girl!!
To Riley: yes... But it's cause it's like the last seat open... He would never like me!
To Syd: don't be too sure girl ur a cutie😍
I turn off my music and shove my life phone in my pocket.
"So how was you summer?" He asks?
"Umm it was good ya... Mostly softball and swimming..." I reply, "you?"
"Good! Ya mine was good."
This convocation couldn't be more awkward luckily we get to the school before it could go on. The middle school kids get off first so we all pile off the bus into the court yard. I rush inside to find Riley.
"Riley!"
"Syd! I've missed you so much!!"
Riley has been on s cruise up until yesterday so I haven't seen her too much.
We throw our stuff in our lockers and head to home room right as the bell rings. I sit down in the back of the room with Riley.
"Good morning! It so great to see all of you!" Ms. Wilson says.
We have had her for English for all of middle school but this is our first year with her as home room. Hayes tried to sneak into the class room but he gets caught.
"Hayes such a nice way to start the year being late. I won't give you a detention because I'm feeling nice but next time expect it."
He takes a seat next to his best friend Tate and they start talking about football try outs.
