Chapter Six

I had been training for about a month. There's not one day I didn't come home super tired. As we went through the training, Darrien showed me how I had actual powers here on earth. I could control the elements like water, fire, earth, and air, but there was another one I could control: spirit. It felt amazing. I could feel everyone's aura and see it. I could see what was really inside them and their colors. Each person has their own special aura and when I looked in the mirror I could see my own. It was a beautiful light pink with streams of red, blue, yellow, green and purple. I even got two tattoos, one each shoulder. One is a sun outlined in gold and the other is a crescent moon outlined in sapphire blue.

Even though I was of these amazing creations Darrien told me about, I couldn't help but feel...I don't know...weird? Confused? Why me? Why did I get chosen to be like this when there are so many other people in this world who could do a better job than me? I don't know, I just feel like I'm not good enough for this.

"Serena, are you okay?" A familiar voice shook me out of my thought process.

"Hm?", I said as I shook my head and turn to find Rose's big brown eyes in my face.

"Are you okay? You're usually talkative and you look hella tired." She sat back down and put on her glasses. She does that when she needs to "discover" something. "Tell me what's up."

"Oh nothing, really, just so much homework to do. Man, high school is tough."

"Yea, it's not exactly a walk in the park, but don't worry, you're really smart, so you'll do what's right. " It killed me inside no being able to tell her the truth. I don't like telling lies. Have you ever had that feeling where it seems your body is eating itself and you're stressed out? Well, that's how I feel if I lie to someone. I can't do it because it's not in my nature.

When we get to school, I'm wrapping up my earphones and put them in my skirt pocket and I hear Rose say ow. I turn to find Rose holding her finger that seemed to be bleeding.

"Crap, books are dangerous", she said as she put her book in her bag.

"Hold on, I got tissues in my bag." I turn to get my tissues and I turn back to wipe Rose's finger and it wasn't bleeding anymore. "What happened to your cut?"

"Oh, it's fine. I just licked it and now it's fine."

"But the cut...it's not even there anymore."

"You probably can't see it, but I'm fine. Come on, let's go." She got up putting her backpack over her shoulder and walked off. I grabbed my stuff and followed her.

What did I just see? Is Rose...no, it can't be...can it?

She walked pretty fast to our usual table. I had to speed walk to keep up with her.

"Rose?", I asked, but received no reply. She put her bag down and stood there for a while. Because I was so curious of what she really was, I took a look at her aura. It was a dark, but beautiful purple with streams of silver. Those streams of silver told me she was more than just human. There was only one question that remained: what exactly was she?

She turned to me, grabbed my hand, and pulled me towards the bathroom. "Wait, Rose-" I was shoved into the bathroom. Thankfully, no one was in there, but I fell on my butt when I hit the floor.

"What was that for? You didn't have to drop me, you know?" I got up and patted my skirt and put my hands on my hips. "Now, are you going to explain yourself to me or not?"

She just stood there in front of me with her head down. I didn't know what to do at that point. She clenched her hands.

"I'm not a freak, okay."

"What are you talking about? I know you're not, but I know you're something more. I can tell because..."

She lifted her head and look at me. I don't know if I wanted to finish that sentence. Darrien told me not to tell anyone, but she was like me, different. I took a breath and said, "Because I'm a freak. I can see your aura and it's not normal. So, what are you?"

She turned her face away from me. She sighed and said, "I don't know what exactly what I am, but I know I'm different. I can heal pretty fast. I'm agile like a cat, but I guess my nails gave that away."

She did always have freaskishly large nails, but they were always so well groomed and taken care of....

"Serena? Hello?" It seems I wondered off again.

"Sorry, spaced out, but listen, don't worry. I can keep your secret if you can keep mine. I'm not regular either." I lifted my shirt sleeves and showed my tattoos. Her eyes widened.

"You got tattooos?!" She put a hand through her hair.

"No! They formed when I figured I had powers. I can also heal super fast. I can see people's inner person which is their aura and I can use the elements to my will. There's so much more I can do, but we don't have time for this. Look, I promise I'll keep your secret if you keep mine. And I never ever break a promise."

She looked at me with a smile and tears in her eyes. She hugged me and said, "Thank you and I'm sorry for knocking you on the floor. Did I hurt your butt?" She laughed at me and put her hand on her cheek.

"Shut up. I'm fine and this butt is still fabulous and it's mine." I laughed with her and we walked back to our usual table. She grabbed her bag and we started walking towards our 1st period.

"Also, Serena..." I turned to her and she looked at me with a smile, "we are not the only ones out there. Afterschool, I'll introduce you to my crew." She smiled so brightly and I couldn't wait not did I know what to expect.
