Chapter 2
All of them laugh as I say, " I think I love Soul the most. His partner, Maka, is super funny whenever she gets made fun of because of her flat chest."
Amanda laughs, "Yup, but it's true. She does."
All of them laugh hysterically once again. I got up, grabbed my black Jansport backpack and say, " I'm gonna go look for Darrien. I'll see you guys later, ok?"
All of them waved goodbye to me as I walked onto the blacktop searching for Darrien. I found him near the basketball court, leaning against the basketball pole.
I walked up silently and say, "Hi there."
Darrien turns around unaffected and smiles, " I knew you were there. So where have you been hiding?"
"No fair. You scared me this morning. I hate that you're unscareable."
" It's not my fault I was born that way. So really, where were you?"
" I was with my friends. We were talking about anime and saying phrases in Japanese. It was awesome."
" Did you tell them that you can draw anime?"
"Not yet. I'm not even that good. But I've seen their drawings. Rose is really good she has her style of drawing. It's really nice and this other girl named Amanda can draw anime way better than me and she can do it in marker. My old friend has her own cutsie anime style, too. Man, I gotta seriously practice more."
Darrien laughs, "Hey, you're getting there. You get better everyday and yours are pretty accurate."
" That's cause I'm a copier. I can look at something and draw it no problem."
" Well I think they're awesome. Don't be down like that."
I smile and hit his shoulder with mine lightly. We laugh with each other until some boys come up to them.
One of the boys steps closer and says, " Hey Darrien, aren't you gonna introduce us?"
"Hey, Aren. Serena, these are my guys friends. Aren, Edwin, Eddie, Kenny, Chris, and the other Edwin."
"Hi, I'm Serena. It's nice to meet you guys."
All the guys wave hi and Aren goes back to talking to Darrien, " So is she yours?"
" Uhmm, excuse me? What's that supposed to mean?" I stepped closer to Aren, " I don't belong to anyone, ok? Yes, I'm his girlfriend, but he doesn't own me."
"Ohh, whoa. Looks like Darrien got a feisty one. Right, guys?"
I clenched my fists, but Darrien grabbed my hand and pulled me back a little. He looked at me and shook his head a little. I calmed down and stepped back.
Darrien stepped closer, " Aren, dude, be cool. Come on, you're one of my best friends. If you're not nice, she'll kick your ass."
Aren shrugs and says, " Fine. Anyway, you wanna play basketball with us?"
"Sure. Serena, do you wanna play?"
" Nah, I'm stuck in a skirt. I don't wanna deal with my mom and her screaming for me getting hurt. I'll just watch."
Darrien hugged me and said," All right. Make sure you don't get hurt."
I nodded and sat a bench near the court. I watched them play as I thought about my day.
"Well, seems like so far, it's been ok. At least I have friends, I thought it was gonna be harder to make friends. Hmm, that Aren guy rubs the wrong way, but what am I gonna do? He's Darrien's best friend. Besides, boys are stupid. I hope he doesn't become a problem."
