I didn't realize how short the distance is from the bus stop to school. Rose had to shake me to return to reality.

"Serena, are you ok?" Rose looked at me funny like if I had a zit on my face the size of a orange. Because I was conscious, I put my hand on my face and said, "What is it? Do I have something on my face?"

"No, it's just your face look so weird. Do you space out?"

" Yeah I do, sorry about that."

"We're at school so let's go" We both get off the bus and walk into the school to sit at our usual spot to wait for the others. I made it through and avoid everyone until lunch time when Darrien came over to me and he could tell something was bothering me.

"Ok, what's wrong?"

"What makes you think something is wrong with me?"

"Because it's  Make-your-own pizza day and you're not in line to put pineapple and ham on yours."

"Damn, you know me so well...", I sigh, "Yeah, I just had a weird dream that's all."

"What about?" He sits next to me on the bench with two slices of pizza on his plate. He hands me one with pineapple and ham.

"Aw, thanks." I begin to eat the pizza little by little," So yes I had a dream that I was half vampire and half angel and for some reason you were there." I looked at Darrien and he looked like he had just seen a ghost. "Darrien, you ok?"

He shook his head and said, " Yeah, that's a really weird dream." He looked away from me. I was getting the feeling there was something he wasn't telling me. I opened my mouth to ask him what it was, but the bell interrupted my thoughts. He got up and offered his hand to me. "Come on, we got to go to class."

I grab his hand, and then I felt a surge of power so strong I let go automatically."Ow, what was that?" He looked frightened. "Darrien, did you feel that?"

"Yeah, it was just a shock. Serena, it's all right.I gotta go to  class ok, I'll see you later." He walked off to his class and I walked to mine. It wasn't just a shock...he's hiding something. That power it felt wrong...but it felt good. I quickly shoved that thought out of my head. I didn't know what just happened, but I knew I had to get to the bottom of this mystery.

The car ride with Darrien and his mom was super awkward, even his mom didn't want to say anything. We walked into the house and I sat on the couch with favorite book called Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy. His mom left going to pick up Darrien's little sister and going to groceries like usual. He sat at the other end of the couch, but didn't say a word. We sat there in silence for a good five minutes and then, he said, "I know you're mad and you think I'm hiding something."

"Yes, I am mad and yes I do think you're hiding something so spill it", I say as I put my book back in my backpack. He sits there in silence and not moving. "So, you're gonna stay silent? All right, fine." I start to get up from the couch but he grabs my hand.

"Ok, look I'm sorry, but I can't tell you, not yet anyway."

"Not yet, what do you mean not yet?", I say as I sit back down. "What is going on?"

"You'll figure it out soon, you're a smart girl, but right now, just leave it alone." My mom's car horn disrupted our conversation. "You better go, trust me, just let it go."

He hugged me, but I didn't hug him back and he could tell I didn't. I walked out of the house with my backpack around one shoulder and left without saying another word. I went to sleep that night, crying into my pillow feeling hurt and stupid. Three months have passed and it's already Christmas time and yet, I wasn't feeling very jolly like usual. Darrien hasn't spoken to me ever since that day we fought and I felt like our relationship was going down the toilet. I stayed after school for soccer practice and I saw Darrien running with a group of kids that were running for the big marathon in March.

"Hmm, seems like he joined the SRLA kids", I said to myself as I packed up my clothes and put my gym bag over my shoulder. I was the last one to get picked up since the school bus doesn't take us back until after 6pm. I waited there at the usual table right under the sun roof. I noticed all the other kids from SRLA left already while Darrien was still packing up. I didn't want to see him so I walked out into the blacktop looking up into the sky. Suddenly, I felt a cold chill down my spine and I knew somebody was standing right behind me. I thought it was Darrien, so I just laughed and said, "Well, I hope you're here to apologize."

A voice laughed behind me and it wasn't Darrien as it said, "No, Princess....I'm not here to apologize...I'm here to end you." I turned around, but as soon as I did, I got knocked back on my back a several feet from the figure. I didn't know what to do; I wanted to run, but my legs were frozen in place. My head couldn't wrap around what had just happened. I wanted to scream, but silence was what I said. The figure walked closer and closer to me as it said, " Your master should've done better of taking care of you."

My master?, I thought as he laughed maniacally. I put my arms up to defend myself, but I knew it was useless. What I hear next surprises me. I heard the figure grunt as if it got hit in the stomach. I put my arms down finding Darrien standing over him. The figure stood back up and said, "Ah, yes the Creator...seems like your Creation needs work."

Darrien takes out a sword from nowhere and points it at the figure, "My Creation is none of your business, so I suggest you leave." Darrien swings his sword at the figure, but it jumps back and says, "We will come for her when she's ready." As soon as he finished, he vanished like he was never there. Darrien's sword disappears and he runs to me. "Serena, are you ok?"

I tried to speak, but again nothing. I stood up and noticed I wasn't hurt. I was so shocked that the next thing I know I wake up on the bus wrapped in Darrien's arm while I was laying on his chest. I sat up and pushed him away from me. "What was that all about?" "Really, someone tried to kill me and he pulled out a sword out of thin air and that's all that comes out my mouth?"

Darrien looked at me and reached towards me, but I pushed myself against the bus window. "Tell me what the hell I just saw or I'll scream." Darrien sighed and said, "It's a long story."
