Chapter Thirteen - Detention

I totally fucked up.

Natsu tried to justify beating up Gray by wondering why the raven-haired guy slapped him just because he forgot about their presentation.

But he knew it was wrong to use violence.
Natsu wasn't a bad guy, he was a cheerful person without bad intentions.
The pinkette simply had anger management issues. His friends kept telling him to handle them, but he was too proud to admit it. He's been having these anger issues since... it happened. Natsu shivered at that thought and hugged himself.

But now it escalated. He actually hurt somebody seriously. Even though he disliked Gray, Natsu felt guilty. It was a fight between friends like he'd have with Max or his brother Zeref.
No, this time it was about hatred. And Natsu didn't like it.

Erza told him to apologize. Usually he'd be too prideful to do so, but he didn't want to get into trouble. Especially not with Erza.

After skipping the rest of the class, he walked to the school infirmary.
He saw Gray sitting on a bed with a patch on the left side of his forehead. That from when Natsu smashed Gray's head against the wall.
The pinkette frowned at that sight.
Next to the raven-haired boy was the school nurse Polyushka, an elderly woman with pink hair. She didn't like people. Natsu wondered why she became a nurse in the first place.

"What are you doing here? Shoo, I don't want people in here", the witch-like nurse growled.

Gray remained in the same position, staring into the air and not making a move.

"Oi, wait! Erza, I mean, the school president said I should go here", Natsu explained, defensively raising his hands before himself.

After being death-stared by Polyushka, Natsu looked to the side were Gray was sitting.
"Can I talk to you?"

The school nurse sighed and left the room as she acknowledged this was an important situation.

Natsu took a few steps forward, trying to make Gray look at him, but failed. Maybe it was better that way.

"Um... I want to say sorry", Natsu began and thought that Gray would just stay quiet again.

"You're not saying this because you want to", Gray spoke in a quiet, yet angry way as he still stared into the air before him.

Natsu frowned and looked down: "Not exactly. I don't really like you, but... And maybe Erza did force me to apologize, but..."

"But?"

"But I am sorry. I shouldn't have done this and-"

"You really shouldn't have."

Gray finally looked into Natsu's eyes.
The pinkette's face was filled with shock as he saw Gray's black eye and the dried blood on his botton lip.
Natsu felt even more guilty than before.

"I know, I feel guilty! I didn't want to hurt you! Gray, I'm sorry, I really am! And... and..", Natsu yelled sincerely and didn't know what else to say.

"It's okay. Let's just forget it", Gray stated as he looked down again, where he was staring at before.

"I really want to make it up to you", Natsu wasn't satisfied with the sudden forgiveness by Gray. He needed to do something.

"No need-", Gray began as the pinkette interrupted him.

"Let's go to Laxus' party together, okay? With Lucy and Erza again. I'll introduce you to everyone and you'll get to know people you actually like. Is that okay?", Natsu suggested in panic and in hopes to make it up to Gray.
Gray didn't quite know how to answer.
It was weird being invited by Natsu to go to a party together.
He didn't mind the company of Lucy and Erza. He also didn't hate the idea of getting to know other people. He might actually find real friends. People who aren't like that prick Natsu.
