Chapter 5

!Esmeray's point of view!

I set my phone down on the kitchen counter and got something to eat. 15 minutes passed and I was just finishing up with the dishes when my phone started to ring. I saw the caller ID was River and answerd 

"Hey" The person speaking wasn't River but they sounded frantic "Hey! River told me to call you instead of her sister, we need help. Were down at the western age high school!" He quickly hung up and I was left with a feeling of panic and worry as I rushed out grabbing my keys and jacket.

I found my way down to the school and climbed over the fence, I saw a few police cars up infront of the office and a crowd of students out in the feild. I pushed through and saw what had happend. 

River was curled up next to a tall male with short brown hair and dull cyan eyes, blind in one and a dusty pale skin color. He was yelling at a male a few inches taller than him with short black hair and peircing green eyes. I rushed over to get a better look as I noticed the guy with black hair had blood splattered on his uniform and hands. 

I felt a sickening feeling as I looked over at River. Unconsoius with shallow breathing. Her nose had been broken and her shoulder had been cut deeply along with her ankle being twisted in a weird way. Her shoulder was bleeding heavily staining her white shirt throurgh her dark jacket.  I looked at the black hair male and then the one yelling at him. "What the fuck did you do to her?" He looked at me "What she deserved." His voice was cold and rough. "And you think inflicting pain is what she deserved!?" I was close to shouting at him as I moved River onto my lap.

"What eles would she get?" he retorted. The male with brown hair looked at me and then back to the black hair male finally loosing his patientc. He lunged at the balck hair male pinning him down and punched him once accross the face "First you picked on Nightmare along with the other brats- And now that she's gone once again your full attention is on River!? What is your deal man!?" I could hear the tears welling up in his eyes as he continued "This has gone to far Carter! You could have killed her if I didn't step in in time." He punched Carter again and got off of him.

 The principle rushed over seeing the comotion with him and Carter "Boys! The last thing we need is more trouble or both of you will recieve detention!" He shouted as he grew closer to the crowd.  His gaze went over to me and then River. He walked over and put a hand on my shoulder "ma'am, Would you mind carrying her carfully up to the front office?" I nodded and stood up with her in my arms. Even though she was unconcious I noticed her nuzzle into my chest and whimper. 

                                                        ~Time skip: 2 hours~

I was sitting next to her bed after the nurses left. Carter had broken her ankle while trying to et her to stop running away. She also had bruises and small cuts on her legs, body, and arms. I sighed and let my hand find hers. I sat there for a few minutes and then heard loud footsteps coming to the door and her father barged in followed by the male with brown hair and two girls.

I recongnized her sister but the other female was new. She was average hight with long hair the color of River's Sister's hair, Golden brown eyes, and light makeup. She wore fancy clothing that you would see a runway modle wear. 

I quickly removed my hand from River's and stood up, backing to the corner of the room to give them space. "River!" Her sister cried out and rushed over "Oh calm down lexi. She'll be fine. It's not like she died or anything" I guessed it was her mother that said that. She spoke in a snotty voice and rolled her eyes "Mother. How could you not care!? She's your fucking daughter for gods sake!" The sister's were clearly close to each other "Your mother is right, Lexi." 

The male with short brown hair walked over to me "Hey, I'm Axle." I looked at him and saw the scars across his blind eye "Hey, I'm Esmeray." he sighed "I hope she can recover. Well, I know she can.. She's gone through worse." I looked over at her "Worse?..." Axle hummed in response and nodded his head slowly "I want her to come live with me but she keeps saying one day It'll get better and keeps declining" "hm. Do.. You know exactly what her fathers like?" Axle stiffened "You won't like the answer.." he whispered. "then I guess that means he's... violent?" 

Axel nodded and walked over to sit next to lexi. Lexi was holding River's hand and sighed. She must have felt me looking at them and looked behind her "Hello?" I met my eyes with hers "Hi."  "Your that girl from the market, right?" I nodded "Esmeray" she hummed "Lexi" 

A few hours had past and River's father hasn't bothered to acknodledge me. I got a good look at him. He was tall, Muscular, lean, and had the same hair color as River. He wore a grey dress shirt and black dress pants.  He wore a stone cold expression on his face. I walked over and sat on the floor by Axle. 

!Axle's point of view!

I was shocked, worried and pissed off. Carter would have killed her today if I or someone eles didn't stop him.. I noticed Esmeray sit next to me, she was looking at River with concern in her eyes. I sighed and put a hand on Esmeray's Shoulder "Hey, She's gonna be okay." She gave a faint smile "Heh, She seems strong so I can't deny that." I chuckled. 

River had lost alot of blood so no one knew when she would wake up, but the doctor said maybe a few hours to a day.  I leaned back in my chair and relaxed, not soon after Lexi rested her head on my shoulder, asleep. I smiled faintly and brushed my fingers through her hair. 

~Time skip: 1 hour~

Lexi woke up and noticed her parents had left the hospital. Axel was asleep with his arm around Lexi and esmeray was holding River's hand resting her head on the edge  of the bed, asleep. 

Lexi checked her phone and looked up at Esmeray. She smiled faintly and snapped a picture of the two. 

A few minutes passed and Axle woke up, so did Esmeray. They chatted and made some jokes to pass the time. 

!River's point of veiw! 

Everything hurt. Everything was dark and I couldnt move. I could hear the sounds of laughter all around me. I remembered one thing before my world went blank and stopped moving. Esmeray. She had picked me up but I didnt know why.. I could hear her heartbeat, Feel her warmth and strength and then it all stopped. 

My eyes fluttered open only to instantly shut from being blinded by a bright light above me. I heard a gasp to my left and opened them again tilting my head and my eyes met with Esmeray's.
