Michael's point of view

Well, as Carson is speaking, I can't stop thinking about what just happened with June. Seriously, the guy was looking at her like she was a piece of meat or something. I know June is beautiful, she's even more than this. I never met someone as beautiful and sexy as her. I'm very flattered that men envy me for having such a beautiful girl by my side, but I can't help it: I'm jealous when it comes to June. I mean, I've never been so in love with someone as I am in love with June. I know she is the one, my soul mate. I really don't want a man who is looking this way at my woman as my manager. I don't know what he is capable of...

"Um, Mr. Jackson?" I heard Carson's voice said.

"Um yes. What were you saying?" I asked, looking at him.

"I was just saying that you have a beautiful girl by your side!" He said, smiling.

"Yeah, you already said that." I said, in a drier way than expected. His smile slowly faded.

"Um, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to upset you or something. I'm a little bit awkward sometimes..." I said, hiding his head in his hands.

"It's ok." I marked a pause. "So, how long have you been in this industry?"  I asked, faking a smile.

"Fourteen years. Here is my resumé if you want to take a look at it." He declared, handing me his resumé. I took a careful look at it,and noticed Carson used to be Lionel Richie's manager. Lionel is a friend of mine, he really is a great guy. We kind of have the same ideas, and that was a real pleasure to write We Are The World with him.

"So you used to be Lionel Richie's manager? What happened?"

"Um, I'm sorry it's really confidential." He said, looking at his lap.

"If you wanna be my manager, you have to tell me this. I don't want bad suprises to happen." I sternly said.

"I-um... Lionel thought I was having an affair with his wife." He declared, playing with his fingers.

"Did you?" I asked, nervous.

"It was more than this. We were in love, and still are. Courtney just told me that she can't leave him, so I got married, and I'm happy now. Even though I won't forget her..." He said with sadness in his voice.

"Does Lionel know this?"

"No. It been a long time now." He marked a pause and looked deep in my eyes. "Mr. Jackson, I just want you to know that I don't want my reputation to be jeopardized because of what happened with Courtney. I am a good manager, I know it and you know it, that's why you called me. I really want this job."

"I guess I have to trust people again..."

"May I ask you why you said 'again'?"

"Frank DiLeo, my former manager. He betrayed me, he did things I never thought he would be capable to do. He didn't accept June because he said she was nothing but a distraction to me. He was violent and rude towards her, thatw why I fired him." I told him, feeling the anger boiling in me, like every time I speak about this man.

"Love is the most important thing on this planet, I won't ever forbid you to be with the woman you love. However, if I am your manager, I'll have to make sure you're focused, that's all." He said, winking at me.

"Yeah, I understand" I answered, faking a smile. I know I really should trust people again, but with what happened with Lionel's wife, I'm pretty sure it can happen again. Am I being paranoid? Maybe, but I really don't want another freak around me, around us. "Consider today as a try. If everything's going well today, I'll hire you."
