1 week later
June's point of view
"Mom, I'll be just fine! I'll be with Michael, nothing will happen to me."
"I can't stop worrying about you, sweetheart. You're still my baby, even if you're 25. Paris is so far away from here..."
"The real question is, are you gonna be ok, here, all by yourself? I can stay if y-..."
"You're not staying here. You go, and live your dream." My mother said, cutting me off. "I'll be fine. Your uncle Joe is coming this afternoon with the kids. I'm an adult, I can take care of myself, you know"
"Yeah, I know... Call me if anything's wrong, ok?" I said my mom, hugging her.
"I will. Now go to your Prince Charming who's waiting you in his castle!" My mom exclamed jokingly.
I kissed her goodbye, and took a cab to reach the airport. My suitcases are a little bit bigger than expected, but in Paris, the weather is unexpected. I decided to call Michael while I was heading to the airport. He picked up the phone after the second tone.
"Hey handsome" I seductively said.
"Oh hey beautiful, how are you doing?"
"Well, I'm good."
"You're feeling good, really? Or is that a lie to please me?"
"I really am fine. I can't wait to see you"
"Me too, I miss you..." he sincerely said.
"I'll be there in a few hours. I have to go now, I just reached the airport. See you in a few, sexy"
"See you, baby"
I hung up. Did he just call me "baby"? I'm melting now. This is the first nickname he gives me. He's so sweet...
On the plane
I was sitting on the plane next to a woman, who was wearing a uniform. She has a sad look on her face, maybe I should talk to her.
"Um, hi! Guess we will be neighbor during this flight" I said, friendly. "I'm June, it's nice to meet you."
"I'm Sarah, it's nice to meet you too." she said, weakly smiling at me.
"So, you're coming back home?"
"Yeah. I've been in Irak for nearly a year, and I left my son home, at my parent's home."
"You must be excited to see them all again!"
"Yeah, you can even imagine how good this feels. What about you? Coming home too?"
"Um, no. I get back to my boyfriend, actually." I couldn't help but smile at this words "my boyfriend".
"What's his name?" she smiled at me.
"Michael. And you? Do you have any boyfriend, or husband?"
"Um, no. M-my husband died at the front a year ago. That's why I unlisted in the army, to fight back in his honor."
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-..."
"It's ok, June. You couldn't know."
This woman is a brave one. I don't know if I could leave my family like this, and go at the front to fight in the honor of my dead husband. I really admire her.
"What about your family?" she sympaticaly aske me.
"Um... It's not very bright. My father died a week and half ago, and I lost my brother 7 years ago. Both of them died because of their heart."
