"38 year old female found unconscious on the scene. Tachycardic and hypertensive en route with obvious blunt chest and head injuries"

"I'll start a central line"

"I can see the chords, the paralytics are working"

"No chest sounds on the right, we need to throw in a chest tube"

"Let's start dopamine at five mike's per kilo per minute please nurse"

Danielle POV-

It had been a while since Stefania went to clear her head and I was beginning to get a little worried. I had to end the meeting with Krista and stated that we would finalise the details later in the week.

Just at the moment my phone began to ring.

"Hello is this Miss Savre speaking?"

"It is yes, who is this?"

"This is Dr April Kepner at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and I was wondering if you could come in immediately. I cannot disclose anything over the phone, thank you"

"Oh...oh...yes of course...I'll be right there"

I absolutely sped down the roads to the hospital as I had a very bad feeling that Stefania had be injured in some way.

My heart was palpitating out of my cheat and I could feel the blood pumping through my body carrying my legs as fast as could to try and find Dr Kepner.

"Hi, yes, sorry, are you Dr Kepner?"

"Yes I am! I'm guessing you are Danielle, please follow me"

I gently followed her pace over to a secluded area of the lobby.

"So we found your contact information through your girlfriends purse, it had a photo of both of you stating two halves of one whole. I'm just going to get straight to the point Danielle your girlfriend has been in an extremely bad car accident, she has suffered extreme neurological complications, and I'm sorry to tell you this but it is extremely unlikely that she is ever going to wake up again"

I could feel myself choking up, and gasping for air. The doctor put a comforting hand on my knee.

"There are little to no signals being sent from her brain, so it is extremely likely that she is classed as brain dead. However, we will know more in around 6 hours. I know you are not officially the power of attorney but we found a ring in Stefania's pocket, so I think we know her intentions"

"I will leave you to compose yourself for a minute and then we can go visit her"

"I'd like to see her now please" I managed to choke out "Also please may I see the ring?"

Dr Kepner placed a dainty black box in my hands, and I opened it to reveal this absolutely perfect emerald engagement ring. I couldn't have chosen anything better myself. It was perfect, just like Stefania.

I placed one foot in front of the other and quietly and slowly walked into her room. There she was. With a tube sticking out of her throat and wires coming from every direction. This was not the Stefania I saw an hour ago saying I Love You, this is a Stefania holding on for her life.

I rushed towards her and planted her hand in mine and I instinctively squeezed it. However, she did not reciprocate like she always did, how she even did just this morning.

I was loosing Stefania, she was not there anymore, the lifelessness was screaming silently out of her.

"Hey you Silly Goose, this ring you got me is absolutely perfect, but I'm not going to put it on yet because I am waiting for you to slide it onto my finger when you're awake. I love you so so much, you need to fight through this. I need you please."

Hours upon hours then pass of me just holding and caressing my girlfriend just waiting for her to wake up.

Dr Kepner then returned with a new doctor in toe.

"Hello Miss Savre, I'm Dr Amelia Shepherd and I'm here to talk about your girlfriends neurological condition if that's okay?"

"Of course thank you" I said ushering her to come closer and take a seat.

"Okay so, your girlfriends scans have just come back once again, and there has been no improvement. The only thing keeping her alive right now are the machines you see before you. Of course, you can keep her on life support for as long as you would like, but it is extremely unlikely that she will wake up. I cannot stress that enough to you."

I completely broke down, I was about to lose the love of my life, and I had to make the decision to take her off of life support. She was going to propose to me, we were going to have a fairytale wedding, have children, grandchildren and grow old and wrinkly together. It wasn't supposed to end this way.

"Ok...okay...thank you. Please may I have some time"

"Of course, however long you need"

I wondered back over to Stefania once again and grasped her hands in mine. They were there limply with no response.

Her breathing tube had now been removed and her life was slowly ending right before my very eyes.

I then placed one last solitary kiss onto her delicate lips and simply stated:

"You were the love of my life Stefania Spampinato and I would have married you in a heartbeat"
