SCARLET SAT in between Michael, and Brooke's mother, Carolyn, watching them look daggers at each other from across the table.

"Boy, I wish I had a dollar for every awkward lunch I've had with my mom, a strange guy that knocked me up, and his foul-mouthed twin sister." Brooke joked.

Scarlet appreciated her effort to make light of the situation. The girls had only met once when Scarlet was in town for the holidays several months ago, and they became fond of one another.

But Scarlet had trouble imagining how someone as beautiful and intelligent as Brooke fooled around with Michael Kelso. Even if he was more attractive than most guys in point place, Brooke still had standards.

"Come on guys, we have to get past this. The baby's coming in a month." Brooke tried to reason as everyone remained silent.

"Oh, and Michael's willing to wait that long?" Carolyn raised a brow. "I'm surprised he doesn't just honk his horn and scare it out in a week."

"Okay, you gotta admit," Scarlet chuckled, turning to her brother. "She's gonna be a cool grandma -- Michael you're a dumbass," she added.

"Hey, if I wanted to scare a baby, I wouldn't honk," he affirmed. ". . . I'd wear a mask and make ghost sounds."

Jesus, Mike, Scarlet thought, you're not making this any easier.

" -- See; He's always one step ahead," she told Carolyn, doing her best to fulfill her promise of making Michael look good.

"He was still rude," she stated brazenly. "I think it's common courtesy to wait 30 seconds at a green light before honking. Pass the rolls please."

The young women looked to Michael, expecting him to hand Carolyn the basket of rolls, but instead, he simply continued eating.

"Pass the rolls please," she repeated a bit louder.

" -- Mikey, pass her the damn rolls," Scarlet whispered sharply. The sooner everyone could make up, the sooner she could get out of here.

"I will, but I feel it's common courtesy to wait 30 seconds before passing the rolls," he said sarcastically whilst wearing a straight face.

Scarlet managed to contain a giggle from her brother's quip, but Carolyn didn't look the slightest amused.

"Hey, I just remembered there's another room here," Brooke stated, standing up from her chair.

"One that I haven't seen. Shall we take a look?" Scarlet chimed.

The brunette nodded at Scarlet and the two made their way down a hallway, away from the cumbersome tension. They silently wandered a bit before reaching Brooke's room.
