I was grabbing school supplies from my locker when two girls walked up to me.

"Hey Minerva. Is it true that you don't feel romantic attraction?"

"Yeah, what's it to you?" I closed my locker and made my way to my classroom.

They both followed me for whatever reason.

"You have to have feelings at least during some part in your life"

"And who said I didn't have feelings? There's other forms of love besides romance, you know"

One of them snuck behind me and that's when I felt the push. I tripped and my papers went flying everywhere. The girl who pushed me squatted down next to me.

"You should be careful next time"

Both of the girls laughed and walked away.

I stepped foot in the classroom and everyone glared at me. Why is everyone acting so weird towards me? I mean, I know the answer to why, but still though. I shouldn't be treated differently just because I don't relate to the societal norm when it comes to romance.

"Before we begin our lesson, I'd like to introduce you all to a new student"

A curly red headed boy with a white tuxedo walked in, and looked at the other students, in a blank expression. The moment he locked eyes on me, and smiled, I felt a kinda platonic love that was hard for me to explain. As he walked passed my desk, smiling at me, my heart pumped but the thought of kissing him didn't do anything for me.

I love him the way a mother loves her son.

I heard a tap on my shoulder and turned around.

"This is for you."

He gave me the note, then winked at me. I was about to open it up, but then Mrs. Chesterfield noticed what I was doing.

"Minerva, is that note more important than my lesson?"

"No"  I respectfully folded up the paper, and placed it in my front pocket.

She began the lesson, but I couldn't concentrate for the life of me. I'm still so young, and I don't even know if what I'm feeling towards him is normal.

When most kids my age get crushes, the butterflies start kicking in, but for me, it's like the butterflies are non-existent.

It's one thing to not relate to other people kissing, but then when you get feelings for someone, it's hard to pinpoint what kind of love you feel for them when romance is out of the question.

Do I love him platonically?
Do I love him sensually?
Do I love him aesthetically?

It's all so confusing for me.

I was at my locker once again, gathering notes for the next class. I think I was rather busy because I didn't notice the tap on my shoulder which occurred about three times.

I gave the person my full attention, and it turned out to be the same kid who gave me the note from earlier.

"Hi, and thank you for the letter you gave me"

"Don't sweat it"

"Would it be weird if I asked you what your name is?"

"I mean, my name was on that note"

"Maybe I was in awe about how cute you were when you gave me it, that I forgot to read the signature?"

He smiled after I had said that. He's so freaking adorable. Come on butterflies, where are you?

"Anyways, my name is Evan Butterfield"

"It's nice to finally know your name"

"Can I have your name?"

"It's Minerva, Minerva Manchester"

"Minerva.... that's a nice name"

"Thank you. Evan is a nice name too"

Next scene

I sat by my bedroom window and gazed at the tree leaves falling down, which made me feel so warm inside because I knew Christmas would be arriving soon.

I noticed Evan riding a bike, and rushed outside to see him. He slammed on his breaks as soon as he saw me.

"You just came out of nowhere"

"Sorry about that"

"It's okay" he took off his helmet, dropped his bike on my front lawn, and then sat down.

I sat down as well.

"Evan, is it possible to love someone but not in the typical way?"

"What do you mean by that?"

"I mean that I love you, but I don't love you in that way"

"What are you trying to tell me?"

"My heart races whenever I think about you, or see you, but it's like the butterflies never show up. I don't know if what I'm feeling towards you is normal or not. Should I get butterflies like everyone else does?"

"So basically you love me, but without the butterflies?"

"Yeah, that's what I'm trying to get at"

"There's different ways to love and whichever one you wanna go with, you don't have to explain it to anyone"
