During classroom hours, I quietly gave Evan a note I had written the night before about the conversation we previously had. He looked at me, then opened the note.My heart thumped when he read it, but once again, the butterflies forgot the address to my circulatory system. The concentration in his eyes just makes me wanna draw a million hearts in my notebook.
"Can we talk about this after?"
"Sure" I turned around, and the lesson was about to begin.
Next scene
I saw Evan sitting beneath the tree in his front yard, and my heart clenched when I noticed he had made eye contact with me for a second, and then proceeded to pull grass blades from the surrounding garden.
I sighed, fixed my dress, and made my way over. With each passing step, my heart beat faster, and no, it wasn't because of the platonic love I harbored for him, it was rather because of nervousness.
I sat down next to him and waited for him to initiate the conversation. When he stared at me the way he did, I thought he was going to be mad at me. Why did I send him that letter?
"Minerva, I need to talk to you about the letter you wrote me"
"What about it?"
"You told me that in your letter, you don't experience romantic attraction"
"I don't think I ever will, but that doesn't mean I don't love you"
"It's okay, you don't have to apologize for something you didn't choose"
"So, you don't think of me any different?"
"Of course not. Who knows, maybe in the future there will be a word for what you're feeling, and people wouldn't have to feel shame for experiencing the same feelings you have right now?"
