Tony's mind was stuck on Marlene. It was impossible to think of anything else when his best friend, who hadn't seen for almost 16 years, had come back home.

Flashback

The awkwardness was almost unreal and everyone could feel it.

"Um... I'm going to go talk to that gostosa over there." The two stared at Patricia as if she was the most interesting thing in the room. She walked over to a man who was dancing like madman, leaving Tony and Marlene in uncomfortable silence.

"So, you're Iron Man?" Marlene asked.

"Pretty much. I am also genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist." He replied with a smirk.

She rolled her eyes. "I guess your still the same."

They laughed. At least it wasn't as awkward anymore.

"Anyway," Tony started between laughs. "What are you doing now?"

Her eyes lit up like fireflies. She loved talking about what she was passionate about.

"I was actress. When I was in London, I did a few movies but I didn't really feel it was me, you know? I started a bit of art but that didn't get anywhere and now, I'm back here."

Tony didn't half of here due to the fact he was too busy admiring her.

"Hello? Tony?" She waved her hand in his face.

"Yeah, I'm listening."

They were talking for ages and the club showed no signs of resting. The music was increasing in volume and it was getting hard to hear the other.

"You wanna get out of here?" Tony shouted.

"This is probably the best cheeseburger I have tasted in a while. London had nice fish and chips but the patties tasted like shit." Marlene giggled.

"Why did you even leave?" Tony asked. He knew he was being a bit coward but he really wanted to know why she left. Sure, they had just broken up but they could be gone back to bring friends.

"I guess just wanted to try something new."

Tony hummed in response.

Marlene saw his expression and said, "I did miss you, Birdie."

" I told you to never call me that again. " he playfully shoved her, making her drop her food.

"You are a bitch." She deadpanned.

Before she could get a punch in, he quickly suggested, "Why don't you just have mine?"

That's weird, she thought, he never gives away his food. "Nah, it's cool. I have to head back."

End of flashback

"How many ounce a day of this gobbledegook am I supposed to drink?" Tony asked Jarvis, grimacing at the green liquid.

"We are up to 80 ounces a day to counteract the symptoms, sir." the AI replied.

He downed the drink. "Check palladium levels."

"Blood toxicity, 24%. It appears that the continued use of the Iron Man suit is accelerating your condition. Another core has been depleted."  Jarvis informed .

He took the arc reactor out of his chest. The core pops out, rusted and slightly smoking. "God, they’re running out quick. "

"I have run simulations on every known element, and none can serve as a viable replacement for the palladium core." Jarvis said.

Tony inputs a new core and puts it back in his chest. It’s a shiny silver, giving a judgment of just how badly damaged the other one was.

"You are running out of both time and options. Unfortunately, the device that’s keeping you alive is also killing you."

He states at the blue lines on his skin.

"Miss Potts is approaching. I recommend that you inform her…" said Jarvis.

"Mute."
