Rottytops yawned as she woke up. She sat up in bed, looking for a certain half-genie to latch onto. Where is she? she wondered as she scratched her backside. She wouldn't just leave without telling me. She pulled herself out of bed and headed into the bathroom. On the mirror she noticed a sticky note attached. She pulled it off the mirror and read it out loud. "'Dear Rotty,'" she began. She noticed a kissy face drawn on the center. "Awwww," Rotty murmured, beginning to blush. "'Squid Baron needed help babysitting his kids while he's running errands. I'll be back tonight, I promise! I also bought some more coffee beans for you! And don't forget about our first anniversary tonight! Love, Shantae.'"
Rotty put down the sticky note before smacking herself in the head. "Shit," she cursed, no longer constrained by Shantae's rules of the house. "I forgot about the anniversary." She looked around, wondering how she could prepare for their upcoming date. A few days had passed since their last encounter with Risky Boots and Bolo and Sky had begun a steady relationship. I wonder how they're doing, Rotty murmured inside her thoughts.
Rotty let her bare feet move somberly, transporting her from the bathroom to the kitchen. She picked up the box of coffee beans sitting on the countertop. A faint smile curled onto her lips. "My favorite," she whispered, reading the brand name and tagline. "'Zombos. Best coffee for the undead.'" Rotty chuckled to herself. "She knows me too well." She placed the coffee beans and water into the machine, letting it prepare as she whistled a song. She pulled out her cell phone from her pocket and checked for text messages. She had only recently gotten the device, having only discovered its existence through Mimic. The scientist had created the technology and sold it throughout Scuttle Town and all of Sequin Land. He had done this to make long distance communication between himself and Shantae easier.
Rotty raised an eyebrow, reading the sender of the latest text message. "What does Sky want?" she wondered aloud. "'Can you help me and Bolo clean out my garage today?'" The zombie noticed that the message had been sent only a few minutes ago, meaning that Sky had not been waiting long. Rotty sighed, quickly typing a response back. "Sure," she murmured, pressing the send button. While she and Sky got along now, Sky still felt like a doting older sister to her. A buzz came from her phone, giving her a response. "'Thanks,'" she read. She put the phone down and changed into her normal clothes: a loose purple tank top, navy blue jean shorts, brown shoes, and a yellow headband.
"Let's get today started," she murmured, stretching her arms out. She pulled her leg behind her back, stretching it out to its max. Once she finished stretching, she pulled out a red mug and poured the coffee into it, licking her lips in anticipation as the delectable liquid slowly poured into her cup. Once she finished pouring the substance she drank it all in one gulp. Her eyes popped open as her body jolted awake. "Oh yeah," she murmured, feeling reenergized. Every part of her undead body felt alive again as the caffeine surged throughout her system. "That hits the spot." She cleaned out the coffee mug in the mug in the sink and put the cup in the dishrack to the left side, leaving it to dry. She put her phone back in her pocket and walked out of the house.
As she was walking throughout Scuttle Town, she took a shortcut through an empty alleyway between houses. Thunderous laughter echoed through the air, putting her on guard. "Ho ho ho!"
Rotty groaned as she clenched her fists. "What are you doing here?" she demanded, watching a familiar pirate walk up to her.
"You know what I want," Risky said sweetly, hovering ever closer to Rotty.
Rotty raised an eyebrow. "You're still mad about that atomic we gave you?"
"Yes!" Risky roared, stamping her feet into the ground and kicking up dust along the way. "You humiliated me!" She pulled out her sword and began slashing in Rotty's direction. The zombie jumped back numerous times, barely dodging each swipe. "Do you have any idea how embarrassed I was, you runt?! How many people saw me like that?!"
