Prologue

I open my eyes. Where... am I...?

I'm in some sort of metal box... In a panic, I throw myself at one of the walls. The world shifts as I fall to the ground.

'Huh?' I hear a voice say, 'Are you okay?'

I lift my head to see a guy with light green hair holding a hand out for me. I hesitantly reach up and grab it, before he pulls me up from the floor.

'I... am fine,' I say, adjusting my mask, 'Who are you? Could you be one of the people who kidnapped me?'

He chuckles. 'No, I got kidnapped too. I'm Rantaro Amami, by the way.'

'I'm Korekiyo Shinguji,' I say, 'I am the Ultimate Anthropologist.'

'Huh, what are the odds? I'm an Ultimate too,' Rantaro says, deep in thought, 'I don't remember my talent at the moment though, but I'm not a bad guy, I promise.'

For some strange reason, I find myself trusting him. But... 'An Ultimate Talent is not something that somebody would usually forget.'

'Yeah, I know,' Rantaro says, unfazed, 'It must be something to do with me being kidnapped.'

'Perhaps...'

We're silent for a few seconds before Rantaro speaks up. 'Hey, do you think there are other people here?'

'Maybe,' I say, 'The thing that I am wondering is... if we got kidnapped, why are we not tied up?'

'I don't know...' says Rantaro. He starts to walk towards the door, before...

'Rise and shine, ursine!'

Rantaro's eyes widen as five... teddy bears? ...appear in front of him.

'Huh... Who are you?'

The pink bear steps forwards. 'Finally, someone doesn't ask why there are talking teddy bears!'

'That is a good question...' I say, 'But first, what are we doing here?'

'We're Monokubs!' says the red bear, 'And you're in the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles!'
