Amber and I were both shocked by King's serious tone. It was obvious that he was pissed at Amber and she was going to get taught a lesson.

"King? What's gotten into you?" Amber questioned.

King stood up from the chair and got close to her. She was looking up at him, clearly intimidated by his scary aura and death stare.

"I am sick and tired of how you've been acting lately. You better have a good idea as to why you've been so ridiculous. I understand we haven't be together for years, but separating me from the one friend I've made all year when I've been at this stuck up shitty academy? I didn't even choose to be here, and you take millions of pointless exams just to track me down and be with me. Honestly, try-hards like you make me disgusted. If you really cared about me, you'd accept my friends and you'd accept me. Tycho is a sweet girl and I thought you'd get along with her, but no, you have to act like a fucking baby and treat her like garbage just for being my friend. For someone like her, it's not easy making friends when everybody's daddy is rich and you're just someone who's pretty damn lucky. You make friends so easily, yet you're acting greedy and trying to keep me all for yourself. You need to grow up. Changes need to be made to progress in life, and you need to learn how to make them, Amber."

We were both looking at King and his mature-looking face. It was almost like he just made a speech to the whole world directed at Amber and her poor behavior. We were left speechless.

I was on the edge of my seat waiting for her response. She was having trouble maintaining eye contact with him, and for good reason. Finally, she replied.

"...I'm sorry, King. I just can't let go of those days when you made me forget about all the pressure from my parents back home. You are what kept me motivated, and now seeing that role taken away from me...it breaks my heart."
Then Amber looked at me with sincere eyes and said, "And I'm sorry, Tycho. I shouldn't have treated you so badly. You don't deserve it. If I'm being honest, you're so pretty and I'd love to be friends with you. I hope you understand that I clearly wasn't thinking of my actions and messed up really bad. I'm sorry for everything I've done from the moment I got here."

I looked back up at her. I know that she meant it, and I was willing to accept her apology. I stood up from the couch and grabbed her hands and held them close to me.

"I forgive you. I'd love to be friends with you!" I said to her, smiling with relief.
Amber smiled back at me, "Thank you so much. Oh, while I'm thinking about it, can I call you Ty too? I heard King say it a few times and I thought it sounded really cute."
"Of course! Oh, and congratulations on getting into the cheerleading squad. From what I heard, that's really difficult considering the captain is a bit...strict."
"Yeah, she seemed scary at first, but was such a sweetheart when I got to know her."

As Amber and I finally got to talk to each other and learn about one another, I saw King out of the corner of my eye looking at me with a smile. He seemed at peace that we were finally becoming friends after the troubles we went through in the beginning. It's a bit anticlimactic how she apologized so easily and now we're suddenly friends, but I'm glad that nothing will be in the back of my mind for a while.

It seems that I can live my days a little brighter once again.
