Jo's POV:
Since Eira had been in an abusive home for a while, we decided to run a few more tests to make sure there wasn't anymore damage to her body. And it turns out her spleen was close to rupturing. We rushed her into surgery but Bailey told me to step out. She knew about mine and Alex's plan to foster her and that I thought of her as family. I nodded back to her and went to an on-call room. I quickly paged Alex and broke down crying. It's a simple procedure but there are always complications. When Alex walked in I was hyperventilating and crying. He rushed over beside and distracted me with pictures of our 9 month baby, Harlow. She had just recently started to crawl an it was so cute. After I had calmed down, I explained what was happening with Eira. I noticed a tear rolldown his face. I wiped it away and hugged him. He held my hand and pulled me all the way to daycare. I picked up Harlow and brought her down to the waiting room with us.
A few hours later
'She's out of surgery now, if you want to you can see her.' Bailey said as she walked us to her room. I was still holding Harlow as I walked over to the seat next to Eira's bed. Alex sat down on the other side of her and held her hand. We only had one more bit of paperwork to do to officially make us Eira's guardians, so I got that out of my bag and signed it before handing it over to Alex. Eira also had to sign it so we had to wait. After 15 minutes, Eira finally opened her eyes. 'Hey, do want some water?' I whispered. She nodded and Alex poured her a cup. After a few minutes, she started talking. 'Who's this?' She said in a baby voice, pointing at Harlow. 'This is our daughter Harlow.' I began. 'We were actually wondering if you would be ok with us fostering you?' I asked. A massive smile appeared on her face and she nodded excitedly. I passed her the paper that she needed to sign and a pen. She signed it and handed it to Alex, who then took it to Bailey so she could sort it out. 'Can I hold her?' Eira asked and I nodded. I put Harlow on Eira's lap and they got on really well. Eira is really good with babies and I could tell that Harlow loved her.
