It started raining. The rain was loud; it was almost deafening.

Seline was staring at me whilst I was looking in the window. I beckon her to come closer. She nods and stands next to me.

The rain had just begun but its coldness strangely felt like winter's. The air suddenly felt sharp; just breathing in is painful. It feels like I'm breathing in small knives.

Seline unexpectedly grabs my arm. I was surprised, but taking a closer look at her I realized that she was shivering.

Her face has some sense of dread on it. I look into her eyes; they were screaming for help.

The reason for her shivering is not really because of the cold, but instead mostly from the fear of it.

Seline has become scared of the cold, after all.

She's scared.

I remove her grasp for a moment, but her eyes look at me with shock and disbelief; it was reminiscent of abandoning a shivering animal. Upon seeing her reaction, I simply felt panicked and I rush and quicken my actions.

I take off a layer of my clothing and put it over her shoulders. I quickly held her close to me; so quickly that it was almost like I had swept her off her feet. As a result, she was leaning slightly on me.

I had done it so quickly that her eyes were still in disbelief, but once she came back to her senses, she instantly calmed down.

She regains her balance.

"Thanks..." she says, looking up to me, "It seems like I was frightened for a moment..."

I answer with silence, holding her. She feels really cold.

I sigh.

I myself need to regain my composure.

She turns around to face the window and tucks herself into my arms.

"You really are warm..." she giggles for a second, but abruptly stops when looking into the window.

I continue to hold her and look into the window to see why she stopped.

The scene was dreadful.

We were looking into a kitchen. The sink was piled with unwashed dishes, cupboards were open with disorganized containers in them. The counter was filled with bottles and bottles of alcohol and used cigarettes.

I feel Seline tightening her grasp on my sleeve.

A man comes into view from the left side of the kitchen. He was haggard and his hair was disheveled. He had a slightly unbuttoned long-sleeved white polo shirt and suspenders on. He was fairly thin and white. He walks inside and grabs an open bottle from the counter, and drinks directly from the bottle.

He looks directly at the window; Seline and I were frightened and tried to hide, but he looked like he didn't notice us; instead, he notices the little boy to the left of us.

His face showed disgust and annoyance at the sight of the little boy. I twitch upon seeing that reaction; Seline looks mad as well.

The man leaves the kitchen and opens the front door, "Get inside." he says in a surprisingly low voice.

The little boy goes inside and the man follows.

The door creaks, and before it fully closed, I stop holding Seline and instead hold her hand, and together we went inside the lifeless house.
