Chapter 4: memory loss

"I'm home" Tochi said as he entered his two bedroom apartment. He took off his shoes then left them near the door. A fluffy black cat jumped up and onto the counter as he passed by it. He'd pet the cat then set his bag down on the living room floor and clicked on the tv. He made his way to the kitchen and grabbed a thing of chips and headed to the living room and sat down next to his bag.

"Looks like mom isn't home again" he stated as he looked at a sticky note reading won't be home tonight sorry- Mom. He then dug out his homework and began working on it. He would spend a few hours working on homework and then by the time he had finished his work it was almost six. He stood up and then walked to the kitchen and made himself a dinner of sweet and sour chicken. Once he finished eating he took a shower then went into his room and went to call up his mom only to be left on voicemail.

After spending an hour or so looking at posts he put his phone down and drifted off to sleep with his cat mino, next to him. Throughout the night he would be restless, tossing and turning. By the time he had woken up it was one in the morning. He tried to go back to sleep but it was no use so he slipped on a sweater and his sneakers then walked down to the nearby beach behind his apartment complex.

Tochi walked alongside the beach which was illuminated by the moon which was still out. As he walked along the beach he noticed an odd figure laying in the sand. He walked over and saw that it was a boy who had albino features and was wearing a black vest and shorts with a white shirt and black boots which almost reached his knees. Tochi looked at the boy who seemed like he was around his age. Suddenly the boy opened his eyes and sat up looking around.

"Whoa" Tochi would fall back onto the sand from crouching as he didn't expect that to happen.

"Who are you? What are you even doing on the beach this early in the morning?" Tochi asked, still surprised.

"Who..am..I?" The boy thought for a few moments trying to remember.

"My name is...Kaiyo" he said after a few seconds.

"I don't remember how I got here...wait where even is here?" Kaiyo looked around confused.

"Um..you're on a beach in my hometown, are you drunk or something? You don't look like it, not to mention you're completely soaked" Tochi added, noting Kaiyo's wet clothes.

"I'm not sure...I don't remember anything except my name" Kaiyo said, bringing his hand to his head where he had felt a large bump which hurt when he touched it.

"Hmm..." Tochi then took out his phone which he had brought with him and searched up what Kaiyo had told him.

"Seems like amnesia" he said putting his phone away.

"Am- what now?"Kaiyo asked, confused.

"Amnesia, it means you lost your memory at least according to the internet anyways" Tochi stood up and offered to help Kaiyo stand up.

"Can you stand?" He asked looking at him.

"I think so," Kaiyo said and tried standing up only for his legs to give out under him. Tochi would catch him.

"I'm sorry" Kaiyo said in a sad tone then noticed Tochi's eye in the moonlight.

"What happened to your eye?" Kaiyo asked as he looked at it in the light.

"It's nothing, I just got in a fight. C'mon I'll carry you. You're probably still in shock. You can stay at my place for now" Tochi said, crouching down so Kaiyo could get on his back.

"O..okay" Kaiyo said then let him carry him on his back and up to Tochi's apartment.

Once up to Tochi's apartment he
put Kaiyo down then led him to the bathroom and handed him some of his old clothes to put on. Kaiyo then got changed as Tochi made some tea, giving him a cup to drink after the both of them sat on the couch.

"So you really don't remember anything?" Tochi asked, curious about Kaiyo.

"No, the last thing I remember is someone saying my name and then it all going fuzzy" Kaiyo said then taking a sip of his tea.

"Oh, it'll probably come back in a few days. Do you have any idea where you live?" He asked.

"No, I'm sorry this is probably an inconvenience," Kaiyo said, feeling down about being there.

"No not at all, to be honest it's been lonely around here" Tochi said just then the cat would just up onto kaiyo's lap and scare him.

"Ah! What is this thing?!" Kaiyo said, obviously freaked out.

"It's just my cat mino. She's nice" he paused for a few seconds "at times" Tochi calmly stated then stood up and picked up the cat only for her claw to get stuck on Kaiyo's shirt.

"Ahh! It's attacking me!" Obviously still freaked out, Kaiyo wouldn't move as Tochi helped to get Mino's claw unstuck then sat down with her in his own lap.

"It's alright, her claws get stuck sometimes," Tochi explained.

"Claws??" Kaiyo asked as he was still scared and looking like he had just been through a washing machine.

"Ya, see" Tochi then put some pressure on Mino's paw which made her claws come out and were painted white. As Tochi looked at Kaiyo he would tell he was still on edge. Tochi then took Kaiyo's hand gently and moved his hand from the cats head to back in a petting motion then let go and let Kaiyo do it. As he'd pet the cat he felt a lot better about her and was put at ease.

"Well I'm pretty tired now that I carried you up the steps. You can stay here until you get your memory back" Tochi said standing up and grabbing a blanket and pillow.

"I have school in a few hours but after school we can talk more about your situation" he would hand Kaiyo the pillow and blanket.

"School?" Kaiyo asked after he was bundled up in the blanket.

"You know, a place you go to learn and stuff" Tochi shrugged, taking the cups to the kitchen and setting them in the sink.

"Anyways sleep tight" he would yawn then walk out of view to his room and closed his door. A few seconds later Mino would jump up onto the couch next to Kaiyo and they would fall asleep as she kept him company throughout the night.
