Hopes in a Dark Tunnel

"I dont think we can pay alex's hospital bills any longer" my mother released a sigh. My parents are fighting again privately outside my new hospital room, i can hear them, "How many times do i have to tell you, that kid was a fucking mistake!" father shouted at her as my mother broke down and started crying. I couldn't do anything to help my mother but to act dumb as if i didnt understand what they were fighting, "Alex come here" my new nurse called me, she cupped my face including my ears, its like covering my ears to prevent it from hearing my parents. She just hummed and looked down showing a sadness in her eyes, it was my first time seeing a nurse like her.

"Ahhh you must've been tired from a long trip!" she smiled.

"Not really, it wasnt that long" i looked down.

This is the third time i get transferred to another hospital, my mother couldn't keep chasing the bills so she kept finding for hospitals that charges cheap amount. I wasnt aware that this is our last stop.

Its been a year since my parents abandoned me at this hospital, no one pays for me but the hospital keeps taking good care of me as if i am special. I am now 8 years old and dropped out of school after my parents made the last decision of leaving me, i can write but i cant read straight. Luckily i have Nurse Liz as my friend, she would always read me books and teach me how to improve my writing and reading skills. I grew up without my parents but with my Nurse and Doctors, check ups is my breakfast and emotional distortion is my dinner.

I was a mess.

"Now who is this lonely kid?" a tall guy standing straight wearing a suit asked Doctor Wayne, i also consider him as a friend.

"He's a patient" he replied

They both kept chatting until they stopped and entered my room, the guy is smiling at me as if i am getting adopted.

"Quackity this is Sir Adams, Prime Minister of the United States of America" Doctor Wayne pointed at him and signaled me to smile.

"You look healthy, are you battling cancer?" he asked me and ruffled my hair.

I shaked my head side to side to reply 'no' and gave me a confuse look, the other guy beside Sir Adams whispered in his ear, i couldnt hear anything other than a muffled voice. Sir Adams stood straight with his eyes wide, he looked at me and smiled again.

"Huntington's disease?" the corner of his lips are forming into a creepy smile, i cant concentrate at his features.

"This is the first patient on our hospital with a huntington's disease. No cure was found for his disorder, however, we decided to let him undergo through a medications 3 times a week to see if he's getting better" Doctor Wayne explained and the rest were unknown to me.

"Where are your parents?" Sir I dont know his name asked me.

"Im alone Sir Adonis" i replied politely.

He chuckled at my response, "Its Sir Adams but its fine, and what do you mean by that?" he's now looking at Doctor Wayne as i saw Nurse Viy at the door, i waved at her and smiled.
