Cursing.

The sounds of rifles going off in the distance filled the air as you steadied your sniper.
"Fuck, man..."
You sighed out. Protecting your warmates is tough work, it seemed. They just kept getting into more trouble every minute, like Steve. Speaking of Steve, he was gonna get jumped for winning a gamble or something. You took your sniper and hooked it to your back, walking to the bar and sitting down, You lit up a cigar.
Puff.
You closed your eyes.
Puff.
You breathed in.
Puff.
You--
Slam!
You opened your half lidded eyes, annoyed at whoever the fuck slammed the table.
It was the Sniper.
Fuckin hell.
He thought he was better at you than sniping but he didn't know that you also excelled in other forms of combat unlike himself. Hah.
You looked off to the side and saw a blue haired kid. He seemed.. Lost? You walked over and saw a brown haired girl in a red dress and heels, sitting on a boombox with two Tankmen pointing their guns at her, (including Steve) but she didn't seem to care. Tankman was in the front of the boy, seeming to challenge him to some kind of battle. You sighed and walked to your tower, watching over them with your sniper. When the match was over, Captain seemed to be roasting them, because the girl started to cry and the boy looked like he got called something too. They then seemed to continue again, and then for another round, but this time the Tankmen looked like they were gonna shoot the girl and her eye glitter red for a second before this ginger haired guy pushed her down to her boyfriend and they hugged, before Steve started to scream and get shot. You got down from your tower.
"Look like there's only one way to settle this. Let's rock, you little cunt!"
The couple seemed to have a purple color to their appearance, like they messed up or something. Captain laughed.
"You little cunts."
You narrowed your eyes at the ginger haired boy and tackled him, about to shoot him when you felt the tip of the other gun he had at your head. You narrowed your eyes and quickly got up, dodging his gun in the process and hearing a gunshot. You two began to fight, him getting off of the boom box and you aiming your rifle at him and getting some of his body parts like his arm, shot. What you didn't know was that you two were fighting to the beat of the song Captain was singing to with the couple. The boom box was shot to pieces by you and the ginger haired boy, and it exploded, leaving a cool background for Captain and the couple to sing to for only a couple of seconds before it cleared up, showing you and the boy fighting each other. Eventually the couple stopped singing and the boy raised his hands up in surrender, before going to the two. It seemed like they only did this when they sang?
What the fuck, that's pretty weird. Anyway, you head to the bar and sit at the farthest side with no one but the bartender there to give you your drink. You drink your (alcoholic beverage), and sigh. Captain was sitting next to you, but he heard your sigh.
"Is there anything wrong, soldier? You seemed to be off your sniping game, unlike Sniper over there."
You looked at your Captain and then to the bastard Sniper, and he was just puffing to his content whilst telling a story to the bartender.
"No, nothing to concern yourself with, Captain."
You replied professionally, but he frowned.
"It is something to concern myself with when it affects the quality of your work,"
He started.
"I have seen you from your station when I challenged that anime-haired boy and that boring girl when that schoolkid popped up. You could've sniped him, but yet you came closer for a 1v1 with him, why's that?"
He asked, curious.
".. It was boring to just snipe him."
You replied, answer short.
He hummed in thought as you ordered a refill for your drink.
"And when you were fighting him.. You were not at your best. Care to explain why?"
"Do I always have to be at my best?"
"Well, this is war, soldier. You always have to be st your best if you don't want to die."
You looked at the bottom of your drink when you received it. You missed home.
You missed it, even when you've made some friends here. (Not Sniper, that asshole.)
You wanted to rest.
Years spent in this war also affected your mental state.
You kept trying to focus on the war, but soon all you could think about was going back home and resting. You had a life there, too.
"... dier... Soldier!"
You snapped out of it and looked at your Captain.
"What's the matter with you? I've been calling you for a minute now. "
"Sorry Captain, just spaced out."
It was silent.

"You're thinking about home too, aren't you?"
You didn't look up from looking at your drink, and sighed. He took that as a yes. He stood up.
"Come, let's discuss this somewhere.. Isolated."
You nodded and got up.
(Meanwhile, Sniper is grinning right now because he thinks your in trouble.)
When you two made it to a tank, you both hopped onto it, the night sky finally showing itself after a long day. You found the stars in the sky a bit comforting in this bloody and cold war.
"So, about home.." He was gesturing for you to continue.
You sighed and looked at him through your helmet shield.
"I used to have a life there, I used to work at my job and be happy while I was doing it, and I used to help people, you know..."
"I just want to go back.. I've been focusing only on this damned war ever since I joined, but every day it gets harder and harder to."
You started to tear up and tried to keep it in, but one tear managed to slide down past your helmet shield and Captain saw that, putting a hand on your back.
"I had a life there too. My whole time as a Captain, there's not one day I don't think of going back home. It's cold without it."
He adds on to your vent.
"Say, why don't we start a new life when we get back? You, and me?"
You nodded as he hugged you.

You sobbed as you held what was left of your Captain, your Tankman into your arms.
"You said we'd go together..."
