I grew up in a small neighbourhood.A quiet town, working parents.Literally the dullest suburbian life ever. But I had one thing that made life better. One person. My best friend Vinnie.

Our parents worked together, our moms best friends. And so naturally we grew up together, learning our strengths and weaknesses, our differences and likenesses. We were inseperable.Well, until highschool.

Vinnie was hot and I was not.We were pulled apart by the school system of petty heirarchy. But our friendship still grew.It felt special, hanging out with him hours into the night, like a secret.Something that no one would ever know,no one other than us.

And so naturally feelings were thrown around and I eventually fell.Cliché,right? And I hated it,every waking moment.Staring into his eyes, wondering if he felt the same. But i couldn't help it.And so I told him.

"Vinnie" I look up at him interrupting our game of Valorant.

"Dude" he scoffs, obviously annoyed that I interrupted him

"Vinnie,I have to say something."

"What?You gotta boyfriend or something?"

"No,Vinnie I-" I stopped midway,what was I doing?Oh yeah,ruining my life."I like you?" I state in a questioning tone

"Really," he laughs, "You don't seem so sure"

Rolling my eyes I put my headset back on and return to the game, with the false assumption that everything was okay.

I never spoke to him after that night. Not by my own choice, but because Vinnie had suddenly decided to ghost me,our late night hangouts away from school, away from everything, had ended. He didn't even show up to my sweet sixteen, rest assured I still recieved gifts from his parents, and a little card every year addressed to "Esmerelda,From V" with nothing more than a "Happy Birthday"
