Caitlyn Pennbrook first met Chase Matthews when she was five years old, playing in the sandbox. She was trying to make a sandcastle, but the sand dune she managed to form hadn't exactly met her expectations.
Just as she was about to demolish the meager pile of sand, a water bottle was thrust next to her face. Confused, she turned around to see who was holding it.
Behind her was a little boy her age wearing a striped shirt and had a messy pile of curly hair that covered his eyes.
"Here," he said, handing her the water bottle, "you have to add water to make a castle."
She took the bottle and dumped it onto the pile of sand. With him helping, Caitlyn was able to make the cube of sand kindergarteners call a sandcastle. She grabbed the lego flag she had smuggled out of the classroom for this exact purpose and stuck it on top.
"Bam!" He said, pointing at their creation. "A castle."
Caitlyn laughed. "Thank you. I'm Caitlyn."
"I'm Chase."
"Do you wanna be best friends?" Caitlynn asked. Chase smiled. "Sure!"

In second grade, when Caitlyn first heard about friendship bracelets, she immediately went to Chase.
"Hey! We should make friendship bracelets!" Caitlyn said excitedly. Chase looked up from the homework he was coloring on the kitchen table at Caitlyn's house.
"Make?" He asked. Caitlyn nodded. "Uh, I don't know how to make friendship bracelets."
Caitlyn, struck with the realization that neither of them knew how to make friendship bracelets, sighed and put her head in her arms.
"But if you don't know how to make friendship bracelets, and I don't know how to make friendship bracelets," Caitlyn trailed off, sad.
"Then who's flying this plane?" Chase joked with a grin. Caitlyn lifted her head and stared at him in confusion. "Huh?"
"I, uh, heard it in a movie once. Just ignore me," He brought his paper up to cover his blushing face. Caitlyn giggled and pushed it back down to the table. "No, it was funny. Oh!" Caitlyn sat up. Chase gave her a confused look.
"What?"
"My sister! LORI!" Caitlyn shouted. Chase flinched in surprise, accidentally knocking his supplies off of the table. Lori, a teen with long brown hair and a concerned look on her face, came flying down the steps.
"What? What's wrong?"
"Can you help us make friendship bracelets?" Caitlyn asked. Lori groaned. "Y'know, I thought you got hurt or something."
"Please!" Caitlyn pleaded, putting her hands together and pouting. Seeing Chase wasn't doing the same, she elbowed him. He grunted before copying her actions.
Lori sighed at the two 7-year-olds in front of her. "Sure, let me get my book and string."
As Lori left, Chase looked at Caitlyn in confusion, "Book?"
"String?" She asked right back.
The two of them looked at Lori in confusion when she came back.
"What's the book for?" Caitlyn asked.
"Yeah, and the string?" Chase added.
Lori rolled her eyes. "You wanna make friendship bracelets or not?"
They both nodded. "Then stop asking questions! What colors do you want your bracelets to be, pick 3."
They grabbed blue, pink, and green string from the bin she offered. Lori raised an eyebrow at them. "You don't want them to be different colors?"
