Impossible. She had to be okay. There is no way that my squad; the best of the best, would be completely wiped out. This was all that was on Levi's mind as he was zipping through the giant trees, following a trail of bodies until he saw the first one: Gunther. He was hanging from a line, still clutching one of his blades. He had a large gash on his chest and it was still dripping blood. His face was stuck in a horrified expression as if his last moments were the worst moments of his life.
Next came Eld. He was the second in command and the most powerful in terms of skill and even better than Levi when it comes to strategy and leadership. He lay with his face towards a tree, his back twisted in horrifyingly unnatural ways. The front of his face was sporting a dent in the skull and he was lucky enough to not even know what had happened before he died.
Then there was Oulo. He was an idiot but a solid fighter. As much as he annoyed Levi, he was one of the best fighters the man ever knew. He was almost unrecognisable. His body was a pulp. The only thing that left Levi certain that this was Oulo was the poorly set cravat that Oulo often sported. It annoyed Levi how it was always poorly done, but any cravat is better than none. He remembered the first time that Levi noticed the cravat and complimented it. The grin on Oulo's face was nothing short of pure joy.
As Levi continued, he spotted another green cloak. It was later up against the tree and the hood was covering the face. As Levi removed it, his heart stopped. There was Petra Ral-Ackerman, with her eyes closed sitting in a pile of blood. "No." Was all Levi said before dropping to his knees. Something strange happened. Levi felt something wet drip down his face. Was it raining? No, the sky was clear apart from a few white clouds. It also hadn't rained in over a week. Levi followed the trail that the drop had taken to find it had originated from his eye. He was crying? It had been so long since he had done this that he couldn't even remember that he was capable of it. He saw other scouts doing it if a friend or loved one died but it had always seemed like something he could never be able to do. Like watching a bird fly.
He grabbed her and held her in his arms. That's when he felt it. Something warm on his ear. "H-heichou..."
Levi pulled his head back to see Petra still had her eyes closed. He moved his head to her chest to hear the most relieving sound he had heard in his life. Bump-bump. Bump-bump.
Petra was still alive. She had multiple broken ribs. Possibly a broken neck and a broken leg, but she could live from that. Levi scooped her up. This is when he found the source of all the blood. Behind her was the famous Section Commander Hange.
"Heichou?" Petra said as her eyes fluttered open.
"Shhhhshhhhh." Levi said calmly into her ear as he carried her back to the main command center that Erwin had set up.
"Where is the Section Commander?" Petra asked, dreamily.
"She's ok." Levi lied, knowing that Hange had sacrificed herself for Petra. "We are all going home."
