There were three ladies there. They looked to be around my mother's age. We were taken into the nurses office. The beds were taken out so just curtains were in the room. I was ushered into a private area and the curtains were closed shut quickly. "Okay, my lady. I need you to take off your hoodie and jeans so I can take measurements." I stared at her in confusion. "Get undressed, it will take less time the faster you do so."
"Can you, um-" I kind of spun my finger around.
"Yes, also take out those contacts." She pointed to my eyes before turning around. "They aren't fake," I muttered under my breath. I pulled off my clothing, along with my shoes, and I was exposed in my undergarments. She took my measurements, wrote the numbers down. "Please take out the contacts." She repeated.
"They are real, ma'am." I told her. "My mom got in an accident while she was pregnant with me and it shook something in my DNA. So, instead of having blue eyes, like her or my father, I have purple eyes." She looked skeptical but shrugged and walked off. She came back two minutes later with a light blue summer dress in her hand. I guess she snagged my size off of my undershirt. "Put this on," She instructed as she handed the dress to me. It had thin straps and the top part looked like it was made of an elastic material. I slipped it on and realized how open the back felt. Before I could say anything I felt a sharp yank tightening the dress and my skin was covered. The dress fell to my ankles. A different woman handed me a pair of silver sandals that were supposed to lace up my calves. "Can you help me with these?" I asked. The woman looked at me like I was crazy. "You don't know how to tie up a pair of sandals?" She asked. She sighed, shook her head, and tied them up.
We got in the limousine and Marilyna poked me in the head again.
"Quit it!" I muttered angrily.
"What are you gonna do about it, Violet?" She asked, continuing to assault my poor skull.
"My name isn't Violet."
"No, but that's your eyes, and to be honest, they're not the best color to go with your brown hair... Lucky for you, hair dye exists."
"Well at least my eyes don't look like burnt potatoes."
She got quiet and stopped poking my head. There were around five minutes of awkward silence. Kasiandre lifted her eyes from her book, briefly. "So," she attempted to break the silence.
"Shut up, nerd," Marilyna shot at her.
"Hey! Leave her alone, she hasn't done anything to you."
Kasiandre squished herself into the corner of the limo, pulling her book over her teary eyes. "I was just trying to make a friend-" She mumbled as Marilyna cut her off again.
"I said shut up. Are you deaf?" She pulled out her designer glasses and expensive lip gloss and applied yet another layer.
I glared at Marilyna and she smirked, as if she was victorious. I scooted over to where Kasiandre sat and looked at the cover of her extremely thick book.
"Whatcha reading?" I asked.
She INSTANTLY brightened. "Ooh! This is a book about Space. It talks about how the planets came into existence. It's actually the only copy left in the world and it's worth-"
"Nerd book, got it. If it exists in my house, I'm burning it." Marilyna scoffed.
"Burn something so rare that it could buy you a new pair of designer heels? Yeah, 'cause that's such a good idea." Kasiandre deadpanned.
"Yes, you touched a copy, of course I'll burn it." Marilyna shot back. There was a ping in the speakers of the car and the queen's voice came on.
