I am 17 and have been through countless different foster homes. In the past year alone I have been in 7 different ones. That is less than 2 months between moving. And today I am moving again. My social worker is hoping that this will last longer than the others, but after moving that much I kind of lost hope.
"Do you have your stuff?" Leslie, my social worker, asked. I nodded as I grabbed my few bags of belongings. We got in the car and drove towards the airport. I took my bags through security and looked over at where Leslie was waiting. "I will come over to check how you are in a week. But until then have fun settling in. And remember they have a daughter that is almost a year older than you. And two younger kids. One girl and a boy." I nodded as she told me a few more major details about the foster family. Then I boarded a plane for Miles City, Montana. I slept most of the ride and woke up as the plane landed. I got off the plane and grabbed my luggage.
I looked for my name on a sign. Finally, I saw one that said, 'Mikayla Andrews'. I quickly made my way towards the lady and man that looked to be in their late 30's or early 40's. They noticed me and smiled. "Hello my name Is Mikayla," I said as the lady pulled me into a bone-crushing hug. I hugged her back before she broke off the hug. "Hi, my name is Mandi. And this is David." The lady said. I nodded and I grabbed my stuff. I followed them to their truck. I put down my stuff and sat down in the backseat.
We soon pulled into a driveway. I looked towards the house, and I saw a tan two-story house. I looked behind the house and saw a barn. I saw multiple pastures surrounding the land. It was beautiful. "Okay, here let me help you grab your bags." David grabbed a few of my bags while I grabbed the others, and headed towards the house. We walked inside and he called through the house, "Jacklynn we're home." Soon I saw a girl, which I'm assuming is Jacklynn, their daughter. She smiled at me. "Hi I'm Jacklynn, but you can call me Jackie." I nodded and then introduced myself. "The two littles are out right now but will be back later. After you get settled in Jackie can show you around. And we do have a few rules. One, you will have to help with chores. Two, the curfew on weeknights is ten. And curfew on weekends is midnight. If you are going to be gone longer than that you need to tell us where you are, and when you are planning on coming home. And our most important rule is that you respect us. We are not too strict, but just be truthful to us. And until we can get you a phone of your own you can use one of my old ones. And if you should ever need to use a vehicle we have an extra truck until you can save up enough for your own. Understood." She said. "Yes ma'am." She nodded and Jackie showed me to my room.
After I unpacked a few of my things, I and Jackie went outside. We took a four-wheeler, and she showed me the pastures and the pond. We went back and made our way towards the barn. "These are the horses. Have you ever rode before?" I nodded, "Yeah when my mom was still alive she taught me how to barrel race. So I have rode, but just not since I was 10." "So you have barrel raced. I do breakaway roping, Tie-down roping, and team roping. So basically anything that has to do with roping. There is actually a rodeo starting tomorrow, and it will go through the weekend if you want to come with me. It is only like 2 hours away." "Yeah, I will see if I can," I said as we started feeding the horses.
We finished all of our chores and headed inside. I saw Mandi. "Girls get around, we are going to the diner for supper because I could not pick up any groceries today." We both nodded and headed upstairs. I grabbed a pair of jeans, and a t-shirt. I got changed and walked out of the door. I walked past Jackie's room. "Hey, Mikayla come here." She shouted. I walked into her room and saw her standing with a few belts in her hand. "Which one?" I looked between the different patterns and pointed towards one with sunflowers on it. She put it on. "Here wear this one." She said as she handed me a belt. And she grabbed two hats. She put one on my head. "Now you look like a true member of the family." We both laughed as we walked down the stairs.
As we walked into the kitchen I saw a little girl and a boy. They both looked my way. "Hi, I'm Mikayla." They both ran towards me and hugged my legs. "I'm Daisy." Introduced the little girl. "And I'm Jaxton."
We all loaded up and headed to the diner. I rode with Jackie, and Mandi and David took the two little ones. On the ride, Jackie and I sang to songs on the radio and goofed off. It's almost like she is my sister/best friend, and we just met today.
We pulled into the diner and got out of the truck. We all sat down at a table and ordered. While we were waiting on our food, we talked. And they also gave me permission to go with Jackie tomorrow!

My first day with this family was amazing. After we got back home I packed, and because of my lack of clothes, we went through some of Jackie's old clothes that were too small for her.
It was now five o'clock in the morning, and we were getting ready to leave. I grabbed my bag that I had packed and loaded it up with Jackies bag as well. We loaded up the horses and the tack. We both hugged Mandi and David, and then we were on our way.
-Authors Note-
I know that this is not necessarily good, and it is kinda cringy. But I had an idea, so I am trying it.
