She awoke startled to the sound of the dorm door swung open. Two girls entered, chatting to each other as they walked in. They had not realized she was currently in her bed, eyes groggy from sleep, watching them. She sat up on the comfy mattress rubbing both hands over her closed eyes. The noise she made startled the girls, and their conversations stopped.
"Oh, hello, my name is Priscilla... er Wilex. I just arrived here." She stood up instantly, waving. The taller girl's eyes lit up. She was very beautiful with her blond hair up in a high ponytail, and her body long and fit. Her pink lips had a perfect cupid's bow that made Priscilla slightly jealous.
"A new girl, how wonderful." She beamed. Her personality reminded Priscilla of sunshine. Her blue eyes sparkled like the ocean when the sun hit it just right. "My name is Trisha Aimes, and my friend here is Hazel Biske. Hazel, come say hello." Hazel as Trisha pointed out was short, but athletic looking. Her dark brown hair fell down her back perfectly straight. Her eyes slanted slightly, the irises so dark they almost look black.
"Pleasure to meet you," She purred. Priscilla instantly noticed Hazel spoke differently than Trisha. Her words rolled off her tongue more freely. "Where are you from?" Hazel asked Priscilla.
"Oregon." The two girls gave blank looks. Fear almost flickered in their eyes so fast Priscilla was unsure whether she saw it. "As in the United States...Where are we exactly? I mean where is this castle located?"
" The academy is in a different world than the human world. It would be wise to be cautious about who you tell your halfling status to." Hazel warned her.
"Halfling? What does that mean? I don't even know what I am. This morning...this morning I did magic- if that is what you call it- and now I am here." The realization of her life being completely flipped around settled on her like a boulder upon her shoulders. Would she ever go back to the way her life was before tonight? Did she want to go back? Priscilla bit her bottom lip thinking.
"What is wrong with being a halfling?" She asked the two girls.
"Nothing is wrong with it. Some people see a problem in halflings. They believe being born half human is tainting the witch bloodline. I would be cautious when you speak about your half status." Trisha answered.
"I have heard rumors of halflings being murdered. Nothing has happened near the school yet." Hazel spoke. " My father has warned me about a group of full bloods called The Elite. They believe they must purge out the halflings. The Elite despise humans for what they did to witches" She shuttered. Fear sparkled in dark eyes.
Priscilla felt slightly unsafe. She would need to stay on guard for now on. "You mean the witch trials? I learned about that in my studies. The books say no one was really a witch though." Priscilla bit her lower lip nervously. Was she safe here?
"Not all of them, but witches were killed. That's why the two worlds are separate now." Hazel explained.
"But don't be worried. This school is completely safe. Headmaster Valerian will keep her students safe." Trisha placed her slender hand on Priscilla's shoulder as reassurance. She gave her shoulder a slight squeeze before withdrawing her hand.
"So where are the other girls?" Priscilla asked, feeling more confident. Two more beds had no faces to them, and she wanted to know who she would be bunking with. She instantly trusted these two girls, hopefully her other roommates would be the same.
"Out. The students are rarely in their bedrooms on their days off. I saw Juniper in the lounge room studying. She never stops. Perfect grades that one." Trisha laughed. "And Alyse is probably out teasing some boys." She gave Hazel a look and rolled her eyes. Priscilla wanted to laugh, she never before felt so comfortable talking to people. Trisha and Hazel were so enjoyable to talk to, and they already seemed to welcome Priscilla with open arms.
