Chapter 9

Bentley's P.O.V

Before I could apologize Austin stormed off. He was driving me crazy with his crazy fucking mood swings. I was sick of it. I walked over in the direction I saw Kaden walk towards, hoping to see him to apologize for Austin's actions. Just as I reached the hallway, I saw Kaden walking out of the nurse's office. 

"Kaden." I called out, my voice shaking.

He stopped walking and turned to face me. I was expecting him to be angry, but he was the complete opposite, he was his normal cheery self.

"I guess I got what I deserved, huh?' He said.

I shook my head, "I don't know what got into Austin, I specifically told him not to fo anything to you. I didn't want a fight to happen because of me, but he's stubborn and never listens to me." I sighed a little annoyed, "I'm really sorry Kaden."

He shook his head, "No, I'm the one who should be apologizing. I didn't have a chance to talk to you because you ran off after the, uh, incident. I tried calling you, but your phone was off the whole weekend. Austin did what he did because he was trying to protect you. I'm so sorry Bentley, I know no amount of words could fix what I did, but I was so stupid and if I could take it back I would. "

I could feel the tears starting to come again, I wanted to forgive him, I really did, but I just couldn't bring myself to.

"I-I." My voice shaking, but before I knew it he had pulled me into his arms, trying to calm me down. I breathed in his scent, that I had missed, and his strong arms wrapped around me, making me feel safe. I looked up at him, our faces just inches away. I could feel a kiss coming on, so I pulled back before anything could happen.

"I have to go." I muttered.

"Bentley wait!" Kaden called out. 

But I walked away, not daring to look back. I headed to my first period, I knew I was late and I was more than likely going to get dentention, but I didn't care. I opened the door and all heads turned my way, everyone staring at me like I was a murderer or something.

"Ms. Parker." My math teacher said, "You're late."

"I know." I muttered.

"This is your first tardy and I'm going to let you off with a warning. But if this happens again, it's a detention, do you understand?" He said.

"Whatever." I said under my breath.

He took one last look at me, and then proceeded with the lecture. Sophia looked over at me, a weird expression on her face.

"What's the matter?" she asked.

"Gee, I don't know. My best friend just fought my ex, and then he told me he was done with me, it's just another happy day in the life of Bentley Parker." I replied, in a sarcastic tone of voice. 

Before she could reply, my teacher interrupted us, "Ms. Parker, and Ms. Taylor, quiet back there."

I took out my notes, and ignored, making it obvious that I didn't want to talk to her. Sophia sighed, and returned to pay attention to the class. As soon as the bell rang, signaling the end of class, I was up and out of the door. I was not in the mood to talk to anyone. The rest of the day seemed to take an eternity. I walked out of my final class when I realized something, Austin was my ride home. I groaned, wow this day couldn't get any better. I walked to his car and saw him waiting in his car, I couldn't quite read the expression on his face. I got in the car, and right as my butt hit the seat, he started the car. For once in our friendship, the silence in the car was awkward. It was Austin who broke it.

"I can't believe you're back together with that asshole." He said, his husky voice angry.

"What happened to being done with me?" I asked sarcastically, but he remained silent.

"For your information, we are not back together." I snapped.

"That's not what I saw." He said.

"Oh enlighten me, what exactly did you see?" I said, my voice taunting.

"I saw you guys talking in the hallway, and then he hugged you, and it looked like you guys were about to kiss." He said, emotionless

I laughed a cold laugh, "Since when did a hug mean that two people were back together? You're pathetic Austin." His jaw clenched, "If you must know, I was apologizing for your dumb mistake. You're lucky he isn't pressing charges or anything. He was apologizing for what he did, and he wsa trying to get me back, but I walked away as soon as he tried to make a move on me. I knew better than to forgive a cheater. You know what they say, once a cheater, always a cheater. So yes, you're hypothosis is one hundred percent correct." I said, and added the last sentence sarcastically.

"You're such a brat Bentley, you know what you deserve a cheater like Kaden." He said the moment we pulled into his driveway.

Before I could say antyhing, he stormed out of the car and disappeared into the house. I clenched my fist in anger, grabbed my bag, and ran into the house after him.

I stormed into Austin's room, my eyes lit up with anger. He was on his bed, but immediately jumped up when he saw me. He looked at me, no emotion in his face. My temper was rising with every breath, Austin was not going to treat me that way and expect me to do nothing. Our eyes locked and I walked over to him and pushed him with all my might and then proceeded to hit him repeatedly. He grabbed my wrists, not letting me punch him, he had an amused look on his face. 

"What the fuck is your problem?" I snapped. 

He scoffed, "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Do have a short term memory?! Do you not remember what you just said to me?" I screeched.

He looked at me not saying anything.

 "You do not get to go around treating me like dirt. You've been acting like this ever since Kaden and I started dating and that was months ago. I thought we were friends, but friends don't treat each other like this." I took a deep breath.

He laughed, and emotionless laugh, "Wow Bentley. You are blind."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" I said angrily.

He shook his head, "I can't believe you couldn't see it. Everyone knew, but clearly you didn't."

I remained silent, wanting him to continue, I could feel my lower lip trembling. All of a sudden, he slammed his fist down on his table, he was pissed off. He turned to look at me, a cold stare meeting mine. He spoke five little words, and those words changed my life forever.

"I'm in love with you."

How will Bentley respond? We'll see.
