~Uh, hey guys! I know I said that I'd have this chapter out in the next day... and here we are a month later. Sorry about that. I'll try to update more regularly, but I haven't had much motivation to write these past few weeks :/. Ok I'll shut up now. Hope you like the chapter :)~
As we left the dining area, Newt filled me in on everything that I missed. Thomas apparently had gone into the maze without permission, so that's why he became a runner. I learned that it had been four days since I was gone... four days (I know that Teresa comes up like two days after Thomas but just go with me for this one). At first, I didn't think he was telling the truth. I thought he was joking. But then it dawned on me.
Newt doesn't joke about stuff like this.
I accept it shortly after, because my thoughts are cut off by the scraping noise of the doors closing echoing throughout the Glade.
"I've always hated that sound," I tell Newt once it stops.
"I know Y/N... I know." He says as he wraps a protective arm around me and I melt into his embrace.
"C'mon, you should probably get some rest." Newt says in a calming voice and I nod, not trusting my voice to not crack with the amount of emotion I'm holding back. We walk back to my hut in silence, and Newt tells me something I wasn't quite expecting.
"It sounds like we're going to have a bonfire for the new greenie tomorrow night... despite all that has happened."(another note: again I know this doesn't happen but just wait and see how things play out) I give a light smile.
"That sounds wonderful. It'll be nice to not have to deal with all of your shanks alone,"
It's nice that even though everything is confusing, we can still find a way to continue on and be somewhat happy.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Newt asks, with sarcasm lacing his voice as he places a hand on his chest with a fake hurt expression. I chuckle lightly at his humor. Throughout everything, Newt still found a way to make me happy.
"Goodnight Newt,"
"Goodnight Love," I give him a quick peck on his lips before walking into my hut and closing the door.

"Y/N! Gally! Time for dinner dears!" I hear the farmiliar voice of my mother shout up at my brother and I. I look up at him with a mischievous glint in my eyes.
"Race you!" I shout without warning as I spring onto my feet and fling open the door. "Hey! No fair Y/N!" My brother screams as he stumbles after me. I race down the stairs of our small home, down a long narrow hallway that leads to the kitchen. Gally's loud footsteps echo throughout the hallway, telling me that he's not far behind me. In a fit of giggles, I enter the kitchen and sit down in my seat only seconds before my brother.
"I win!" I boast playfully.
"No fair! You got a head start!" He huffs as he turns towards our mother, who is carrying over two bowls full of he amazing stew. She chuckles at our childish ways before planting a light kiss on each of our foreheads.
"Happy birthday my darlings!"
"Thanks mom!" we chime before stuffing our faces.
We finish quickly, putting our dirty bowls in the sink once we're done.
"Alright children, time for bed." We groan in protest.
"But mom, it's our birthday!"
"Yeah, shouldn't we be able to stay up a little longer? We are eight now,"
"No buts. I've already let you two stay up longer than I should. Now off to bed. I'll be up in a few minutes to kiss you goodnight." Her stern yet soft tone was always hard to say no to. We do as she asks, heading back upstairs and getting into our pajamas and climbing in bed. A couple of minutes later our mother appears in our doorway with a soft smile on her face.
"Happy birthday Gally, my special boy, and Y/N, my sweet girl. I love you both with all of my heart." She comes over to each of us, and gives us a big hug a kiss on the forehead, but before she can leave, I ask,
"Mom? Can you maybe sing us a song? You know, the one that we like?" She looks shocked at first, but her expression quickly softened.
"Of course my dear," She clears her throat and starts to sing. It was a simple tune, but I loved it none the less. In my opinion, the simplicity is what made it unique, and the way my mother sang it always made me feel right at home.
Once she finished, she gave us a smile.
"Goodnight, I love you,"
"Love you mom," The two of us chime back at her as the door to the small room closes with a light click.
~
I jolt awake with a start as the memory ends.
I remembered something
It was only after that thought, that I realized I had woken up in a cold sweat. I look outside and notice that its still dark out.
"Well I know I'm not going to fall back asleep so might as well get up now," I mumble to myself as I climb out of bed and into a fresh pair of clothes.
The peaceful echo of light snores and a light breeze spread throughout the glade. I took a seat on a log at the edge of the Deadhands, looking out onto the large stone doors.
"Couldn't sleep either?" I hear a voice from behind me. I jump up, but my expression softens when I meet Gally's gaze as he takes a seat next to me.
"No... I had a dream." I reply softly.
"Me too... it was about our mom. On our birthday... she sang us a song." He tells me.
"I had the same dream,"
He looks at me with a startled expression and I just shrug. After a few moments of silence, I speak up again.
"It was a beautiful song... I wish the others could hear it."
"Yeah..." We both stare into off at the towering stone walls surrounding us, until I get a crazy idea.
I whip my head towards Gally, only to find that he was already looking at me, and in that moment I could tell we had the same crazy idea.
"What if they can?" We ask each other at the same time and a large grin grows on my face as we start planning for tonights bonfire.

Time skip to the bonfire
Everyone crowded around as Alby threw the torch into the large tipi of wood and we erupted in cheers. He still wasn't very stable at the moment, and he refused to speak, or even look at Thomas, but we still wanted him to be here. The other girl had woken up, and told us her name was Teresa. The weird thing was, she only let Thomas come speak to her... and he had been acting a little bit different today. Distant, almost. Consistently lost in thought.
I didn't have much time to think about it, considering Gally and I had spent almost the whole day coming up with a perfect way to do this. We wanted to bring a little bit of our life before the Glade back. A part of our old family, and share it with our new one.
"And where have you run off to today love? I've barely seen you?" Newt says as he approaches me.
"You'll find out soon enough Blondie." I say with a mischievous grin.
"Y/N! Come over here!" Gally yells. I nod and jog over to him.
"You ready bro?" I ask him. He nods and picks up the makeshift guitar that he had been working on all day, then looks over to Frypan who always was drumming along to whatever song they were playing at the bonfire. Gally had already told him about it, so he was in on our little plan.
Gally counts down, and the two start playing the song as I clear my throat.
After a few lines, the other gladers join in on the song and we start to dance around the fire. And let's just say, it was one of the best nights of my life.
And it was one I would remember until I took my last breath.
