The landing of the transportation ship jolted me from my nap. I rubbed my mouth with the back of my hand and quickly filed out with the rest of the students. I clenched my teeth as I looked across the massive and decorated courtyard to the tall towers, and the one in the middle was one standing the tallest with green lights shining from the top.
I moved forward with the mass of students. I stopped to look at the statue with two huntsmen and the cowering Grimm. A small feeling itched at the back of my head. I shrugged, "Meh," and moved on. I shoved my hands in my pockets and whistled, walking to the amphitheater. I stood and tuned out the speech from the Headmaster. I listened to the instructions of the Senior's huntress and waltzed over to the auditorium. I didn't have any spare clothes, a weapon, or anything like that. All I had was my wallet.
I plopped down onto the floor, "Mmm... Damn..." I didn't really know what to do, and that must have shown on my face. A woman with fiery red hair walked up to me, "Excuse me but you seem lost." I glanced up at her bright green eyes. I gave a little laugh, "I guess I am." She sat down next to me, "Well what seems to be the issue."
I scratched behind an ear, "I don't have spare clothes or pajamas." She leaned closer to me as I crossed my legs on the cot given to me by the school, "Did you forget to bring some?" I thought out loud, "No. I remember reading something about a sleepover." She looked more confused than I was, "So why don't you have anything?" I chuckled nervously, "I may be homeless."
She brought her hand to her chest in a gasp, "Oh I'm so sorry. I didn't know." I smiled at her reaction, "It's fine, lady. Ain't nothing wrong." The woman leaned back to resting her buttocks on her heels, "You must have worked very hard to get here." Shaking my head, "Nope, not really." With her confused raised eyebrow, I continued, "I drifted until I got the Vale, heard something about a combat boarding school and got it by luck."
She stared at me, trying to decide if I was an irredeemable bastard or a loveable idiot, a look I was accustomed to seeing. I leaned back, laying down on my small cot, "Listen, thanks for your concern lady but I'm okay, I'll probably fail the entrance exam or whatever so, no need to worry about me. I'm sure you got bigger problems than a random homeless guy."
I didn't look to see her reaction but continued to stare at the ceiling. She sighed, "If nothing else I hope everything will turn out okay. Maybe you will pass." I watched her walk away from me and my smile faded. My stare went back to the ceiling, and I drifted asleep.
Morning, get up and head to the place where the exam was being held. I did manage to get a shower, something I was thankful for. I ran my fingers through my shoulder-length long hair. I occupied my time until the exam started by whistling and looking across the forest in front of me. Even when the Headmaster was talking, I still didn't pay attention.
"Mr. Rockatansky."
I was brought out of my daydreaming. I looked to see the Headmaster, the blonde woman beside him, and all the students lined up next to me, staring at me. I glanced between all of them, "What's up? There something on my face?" The gray-haired man smiled; something about it was evil to me, "No I just want to know. Are you ready to start the exam?"
I shrugged, "Yeah, sure, I guess." He shook his head, "Are you ready to start the exam?" I narrowed my eyes at him, "Yeah." He repeated himself, "Are you ready to start the exam?" I scrunched the bridge of my nose, "Yes. I'm ready, now stop asking me that and start so I can get this over with." He smiled devilishly, "Good, I admire the enthusiasm."
My face formed shock as I realized something. I glanced over at the other students then down at my feet. I stared at the metal plate with the fighting school's emblem on it. I looked back up at him but couldn't breathe a word before I got capitulated across the sky.
