I wasn’t really mad for very long. I had to stop immediately. Because before I knew it, I was held back by Gabe.
“Free, calm down. You’ll blow stuff up if you don’t. CALM DOWN. NOW.” Gabe spoke at my ear behind me. I couldn’t fight. It was like he was stronger than me even though I was just like him, unseen and unheard. He was stronger. Why can’t I be strong like him too?
Like how Mitch is too.
“Pfft. How could I be so stupid?” I laughed. I laughed very hard. If people could’ve endured this kind of hardship, how can’t I? How couldn’t I endure even just one hardship for just one bit?
“You okay, kid?” Gabe patted me by at the back. While I was crouching down, holding my stomach.
I don’t even want to think about it anymore.
“I’m fine.” I said.
I just wanted to go back watching her again. She closed the laptop. Funny, huh? Whenever her mother comes home, she immediately closes the laptop which she uses every single day, and stands up to go to her room.
Maybe the topic wasn’t officially closed.
“‘CAUSE BABEH YOU’RE A FAAAAYUHRREWOORK! COME AND LET COLOORS BURST?’” She sang as soon as she entered her room. Of course I laughed. She was going crazy.
“Oh shoot. I forgot mom said not to sing.” She stopped singing. Aww. I wanted her to sing more. She’s actually a good singer. This time, she just stood there in a daze.
“THAT’S GREAT! NICE. NICE.” She suddenly started punching the air, squealing too. Got a good inspiration? Good.
And then she brushed her teeth, looked at herself at the mirror, mad strange dance moves when she does. I laughed and laughed and laughed. A dead man shouldn’t be this happy.
“Having fun are you?” Gabe just had to ruin the moment.
“Yep. Why don’t you go… uh… guard your other kids?” I said. Just please go away.
“Hey. I can’t leave you besides, that’s taken care of.” He said.
“How exactly? And I suppose, I can ask you why I’m here in this very house too.” I said impatiently.
“Well, for question #1: I’m like the Archangel Gabriel, Messenger of God. I lead more angels that acts as guardian angels for other people. AUGH. It’s really hard to explain!”
“I get it. Well, a bit. Then if you’re the leader, why are you assigned to me?”
“Well, because I chose to. The Lord granted us, the archangels, to chose whoever we want to guide. It was for His thanks to us for helping Him in the battle with Satan.”
“Why’d you pick me then?”
“Well, I just thought you’d be interesting to watch.”
“Right.” I just looked back to Mitch who was just fixing her stuff now. This time she looked serious, fixing her stuff up for the next day.
“And I was right. It’s interesting to see you fall in love too.”
“I told you a thousand times. I’m not in love with her.”
“…” he sighed. “Free, why don’t you admit you’re just scared?”
I flinched. “I’m not scared. Do I look like I am?”
“Yes. Yes, you do look scared. And if I were you, you should just forget--.”
“DON’T. Gabe, JUST DON’T. I don’t want to think about it, I don’t want to remember it. JUST DON’T SAY IT.”
“I’m sorry, touchy subject.” He said. Mitch closed the lights and headed to her bed. She lied down on the bed and yawned.
I floated to her and sat on the floor and leaned on her bed. She was facing the wall, and I could hear the how the bed sounded when she moved her feet by course of habit.
“Oh well, I’m leaving for a sec. You go ahead and make yourself comfortable.” Gabe said as he disappeared in the darkness.
“WHAT’S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!”
Well, this is good. I’m finally left alone with her. Anyways, her sister always sleeps upstairs in their guestroom so tonight; I’m the only one with her.
“It’s my entire fault. I’m really sorry. It’s my fault.” I heard her mumbling, and soft sniffing. Was she crying? She must’ve been deeply hurt about something.
“That’s right, it’s exactly my fault.” She stammered more. She turned back to the wall, and even in the night, I could see her tears fall from her eyes. This was the third time I saw her cry. And this was only a week. What if from months from now, I won’t be able to stop myself? It makes me feel weak when I see her cry. And I might get angry again and blow up her lampshade or something.
“No, it’s not. It’s not your fault.” I muttered. And again, it’s not like she can hear me. I hesitated to hold her hand first, but I still did. I knew Mike was going to get angry. But the heck, I already did.
And just as I thought, she flinched, but for only a little bit.
“Heh. My hand is feeling numb again. Is someone trying to comfort me?” It was almost as if she was saying it in her mind.
She squeezed my hand and left me wondering how she did that. And then I flinched this time. I felt a bad shock inside of me. And I flew back.
“Have you no idea that you shouldn’t be touching her?” Oops, Lil’ Mike is here. Luckily, I’m not solid.
“Well, sorry I forgot.” I sighed and sat down again by her bed. If I was alive, I could’ve held her without making her angry. I’d be her best friend in the world and I’d tell her it was okay and that it wasn’t her fault.
Haha. What am I saying?
