I was now surrounded by really scary ghosts. One was a veiled little girl at the corner of the room, crying. Another was a guy who was wearing a white suit but it was blood-stained. My first thought was; why didn’t I look all creepy like them? I floated beside her as she carried her books from the locker. She passes by some of her best friends, Jessie and Ana. She gives a good morning smile to them and joins them along the way. It was always fine to watch over her without any bother from the other ghosts but it was slightly different today. There were more of them. And they were staring at me intently. It was as if I was the one who killed them. Anyways, to clear my thoughts up, I decided to ask Gabe.

“Why are there more souls here than usual?” I turned to Gabe who was happily chatting with St. Michael, a.k.a. Mitch’s guardian angel.

“It must be because of today’s date. Don’t worry, they’re just feeling gloomy that you’re all happy.”

“What day is it today anyway?” I looked at around and the two of them were gone. “Oh. That’s real nice. That’s right. Don’t appear to me when I’m surrounded by my own people.”

“Hey Jessie, what’s your parents plan today?” Mitch asked her friend while she struggled to carry her books properly.

“Huh? And today is…?” Jessie kindly helps her carry some of her books because she carried only a few things. “Monday… and it’s November 2? Oh! It’s all souls’ day today, right?”

Oh crap. “Big brother, you look weird.” A little girl dressed in a white lacy dress clutched on my shirt. Actually, I knew this little girl. She was the one that appears in their school auditorium. Her name is Ophelia.

“Ophelia, what are you doing here outside the auditorium?” I asked her as I took her little hand and we walked around.

“You are truly unfair, big brother. Unlike you, my soul is completely bound to that horrid place and I can only leave it today. When I was living, it was more peaceful and elegant. It was suitable for a lady’s taste. This generation is completely and utterly off with their unspeakable rudeness. Have you seen what these girls have been doing, big brother? They blast out sound from these obnoxious black boxes that suddenly burst out unnecessary noise then they do these gruesome movements that they call dance! Dance is an inspiring thing that should be GRACEFUL and COMPLETELY pleasing to the eyes!” she chattered as I my eyes followed Mitch. I stopped walking and stationed myself in front of the group.

They were chatting happily while they waited for their other best friend, Ami to pass by as they always did. I leaned on the window, and stared at her for a while. This actually became my past time. Although the ghosts beside her distracted me, she laughed innocently as if she didn’t have a care in the world. I just wondered why she was covering her face all the time.

I felt Ophelia’s grip tighten. “Big brother, might you be infatuated with that girl?” I flinched as I heard her speak.

“Infatuated? No!” I coughed to clear my thoughts. I looked at Ophelia and then I saw her sneering at me.

‘’Well, not a bad pick, though. She’s simple, well-reserved, and has good manners! Look at that, she’s covering her face to hide her hideous laughing face, except she doesn’t use a fan like real women do.”

I can’t actually believe that. She was born in the 20th century and DIED at the age of ten by the Spanish Influenza. You can’t possibly believe this ghost kid, do you?

“Should I repeat myself, Ophelia? I’m NOT in love with her.”

“Huh? Big brother, I clearly said that you were INFATUATED not in LOVE with her. What are you saying?”

“I… I don’t know. You say pretty hard to understand words so maybe I mistook it.” I said as I scratched my head.

She sighed at me as if I was clueless. “Men are such dimwitted fools.” She floats away and I stare at Ophelia’s back and she stops and smiles sweetly at me. It felt creepy.

I’m surprised that a ten year old can actually say that. I groaned. I wished that the two would already appear to me. The other ghosts’ gazes are really freaking me out. I leaned back and looked at Mitch again. She was staring at me…? That’s not possible. She had a weird face that looked as if she had seen a ghost (Could it possibly me?). I was actually kind of happy that she could see me but, it would be kind of useless because I am a ghost. She tugged the sleeve of Jessie and pointed at my direction.

“Jessie, do you see that?” she asked her in a terrified tone. Jessie looks at me in puzzlement.

“No, what is it? Is it a ghost? What does it look like?” Mitch didn’t say anything.

“It’s… it’s a…” she muttered softly. I was frozen and I couldn’t move. Then I felt a hand on my shoulder and saw St. Michael.

“Don’t get your hopes up, kid.” He said. And then I saw a large beetle pass through him. And then Mitch covered her ears and screamed as it flew to their direction.

I slapped my forehead. She looks at a bug over me? When will my time come? This is such a pain in the ass. I want to die. Wait, I’m already dead. No one and I mean NO ONE can understand how I feel right now. It must be loneliness? Pain? Agony? LUST? That is not good.

“Gabriel, are you there?” I looked around and found Gabe waving around at the air like some fool.

“You need me?”

“Am I really dead, Gabe?” I asked randomly. It was a random question to get my mood up. He flew two inches from my face and then smiled in an evil way.

“I wonder sometimes, too.” I ignored him again and think about the days when sometimes my wrist felt warm while I was roaming around. It wasn’t natural for me to feel warmth because I am but an air; an existence without a body. I’d be happy if my family hadn’t buried me yet. It has been just weeks since my death anyway.

If I could talk to her, I would happy but… it’s always not that simple. If we ever knew each other when I was alive, I probably wouldn’t end up like this.

“Like what?” once again, Gabe’s face appeared inches from mine. I pushed his face away and when I turned around, Ophelia was also there waiting for my answer.

“STOP READING MY MIND.” I grabbed him by the shirt and swung him around.

“Okay okay! Just put me down!” I sighed. Sometimes, threatening someone is so fun.

I didn’t want to end up hating my death.
