chapter ten

Just like every time Peony was Apparating with her father, immediate nausea hit as she landed on Platform 9 ¾. Except for this time, the reason was slightly different.

In the months of summer, whilst the Wizarding World slandered the Parkinson family, Peony had avoided the need to leave the manor at all.

Other than the visits from the Bulstrode, Greengrass, and Malfoy families, Peony hadn't seen anyone else. Even around said families, Peony had spent her time hidden away.

After their decided agreement, Pansy had put in some effort to include Peony. But it didn't take too many raised eyebrows or thinly veiled scowls for Peony to understand that Mrs. Greengrass and Mrs. Bulstrode didn't want her near their daughters.

Now she stood in front of the large, shining train, bouncing softly on her heeled shoes. Lamia had bought the girls new shoes this summer after the news of their family had blown over.

Peony was close to rejecting them before looking at her smiling father. It didn't take her long to figure out that buying her shoes had been his idea and with a forced smile, she accepted them.

They were pretty, she would admit. A glossy beige color with block heels and straps that wrapped around the ankle and the front. The heel was an average height but Peony still spent quite some time practicing how to walk in them while alone in her room. It matched well with the skirt and button-down of her uniform.

She quickly turned to smile and hug her father. "Do you have everything?"

He asked when she began pulling away. Their relationship was still rocky but they were both putting in as much effort as they could.

Peony nodded, patting her bag. "Medications all in the bag."

"The new ones too?"

Peony's shoulder tightened as she nodded again. After months of nightmares and bodily aches, Peony finally mentioned to her father that a visit to a clinic was necessary

The doctor had determined that her body and mind were still dealing with the stress of petrification and she was given a new dose of medications to take.

Vance smiled before kissing her forehead and turning to Pansy. Peony shot them one last smile before turning towards the train.

As expected, Peony caught the gazes of a few families while making her way through the station to reach the nearest door, looking somewhere between disgust and curiosity.

She forced herself to raise her chin, keeping her gaze on the train until she was pulling herself up the steps and inside. The gazes didn't stop there, a few students paused and stared along the corridor and from their compartments.

When she finally found an empty one, she pushed her luggage inside and snapped the curtains shut, slumping into a seat with a sigh.

Seconds later the door was pushed slightly open and Robert squeezed into the compartment, swatting the curtain away. "Hey."
