chapter one
No matter how many times Peony Parkinson did it, she hated the trip to Platform 9 ¾. She remembered her first year when she had vomited all over the floor and her dad's shoes.
He hadn't been angry, of course she had an excuse, but still she had almost expected him to yell at her for it. Instead he smiled sympathetically and cleaned it all with a wave of his wand.
It got easier through the years, Peony went from vomit to just slight nausea and a headache by this year.
When they landed she felt her knees buckle slightly, it didn't help that Pansy shoved her to hug their dad goodbye. She stumbled before managing to steady herself.
Pansy had already skipped up to the train, their luggage previously delivered by the house elves, Jonesy and Mildews.
Peony turned back to her dad, who smiled down at her, placing her hands on each arm.
"Do you have your medication?"
"Yes." Peony hitched the carry on higher on her shoulder.
"You know to go to Madam Pomphrey if you feel lightheaded, nauseous, tired... anything else?"
Peony nodded, "Yes dad, I know. Take my medication every morning and night, go to Madam Pomphrey every month for a check in, visit early if I feel sick."
Vance chuckled and kissed at her hair, "Good girl. Have a good year, ok?"
Peony nodded, kissed his cheek, before turning towards the train, "I will, bye dad."
She pulled herself onto the train, making her way through the crowds to an empty compartment, the Parkinsons always arrived early to the train so most compartments were empty and she found one quickly.
After settling into the compartment and taking a sketchpad from her bag and a small pack of colored pencils.
Vance Parkinson, despite his hatred for muggles, could never say no to Peony. And really she never asked for anything other than new art supplies, muggle and magic.
So he made a point to only buy Muggle products that were for Peony's art. Pansy hadn't taken it well, Peony thinks that's where her hate stemmed from.
Still, she never took her father's gift for granted, and used the pencils, charcoal, paints, and pastels to her heart's content.
A few minutes later Millicent Bulstrode walked in, she was two years younger than Peony but that never bothered them. The Bulstrode's and Greengrass's visited the Parkinson's a lot during the summer but Millicent didn't fit in well with Pansy, Astoria, and Daphne.
So she opted to hang out with Peony, who didn't have very many friends and loved the company, especially since they both prepared the silence with each other.
