Michigan Popper lay peaceful in her bed, drifting to sleep. Her lullaby the sirens and other bustling noises from the city below. Michigan loved to keep the windows in her flat open as she slept. After living in Toronto her whole life, the noise became a comfort to her and helped her sleep soundly. This one particular night however, a certain siren was just too loud, and possibly getting louder. Almost as if it was right outside her window.
Not almost. It was getting louder and closer. Michigan sat up and reached for her glasses to get a better look out the window. What she expected was a fire truck or police car on the street below. Instead, she was greeted to a school bus. Heading straight towards her. She pondered how this was possible, since she was on the 6th floor, for a little too long before the direness of the situation finally hit her. Thankfully, that was all that hit her as she jumped out of the way of the flying vehicle that charged into her bedroom. A brief clap of thunder and flash of lighting filled the small space.
After a quick recovery, Michigan scanned the room. There weren't any damages, no hole in the wall, no rubble and dust. Just a bloody school bus sitting on her floor.
"Holy shit. How much would this go for on eBay?" Michigan muttered to herself as she inspected the situation. Admittedly. This wasn't the strangest thing to happen to her. Michigan was no stranger to the weird and mythical.
Throughout her 20 years of life, she'd experienced many miracles. From the object of her desire appearing out of thin air to, most commonly, acts of divination and prophecy. She was good at predictions, almost magically so, and it was a joke amongst her friends that she should become a fortune teller. She never thought much of it, assuming she just had great luck. But as she got older and her lucky situations became more frequent, she grew more suspicious. Now, with this school bus, her suspicions were confirmed. Something weird really is going on here.
Michigan gasped and quickly moved closer towards the exit when the bus's doors hissed open. A figure began to emerge and she grabbed the balisong she kept on her desk. What she wasn't prepared for was a lizard getting to her knife first. The lizard held it in its mouth and ran back to the woman now standing by the bus.
"Thanks Liz," the woman said as she pocketed the knife, which was confusing as her dress was made entirely of meat. Michigan broke free from her shock.
"Hey! What the ass?! Give that back! Who are you?! What are you doing in my house?!" Michigan released a torrent of angry questions at the strange woman.
"Woah, woah! Calm down. I'm not here to hurt you. You'll get your knife back after. Assuming I got the right flat, you're Michigan Popper, right?"
Michigan started quizzically at the woman. Her extremely frizzy red hair was tied into a bun at the back of her head and topped off with a flat hair piece, also made of meat. The lizard was munching at a steak on her shoulder pad. She also carried a crooked twig in her left hand. Michigan's phone was too far away for her to call for help, so she went along with the weirdo. Plus, she wanted her balisong back.
"You still didn't tell me who you are and why you're here."
"I'm you but stronger."
"What? First of all, you're white."
"Fine fine. Jeez, someone can't take a joke. I'm Ms. Frizzle and this is Liz. I'm here to take you to Bogwarts."
Michigan was even more confused. Bogwarts? What the hell is a Bogwarts? And why is she being taken there? Frizzle noticed and spoke up.
"Ya know, Bogwarts, School of Magic and Shit? When you didn't respond to the letters, they sent me to come pick you up. When you're all packed just throw your luggage in the bus and we can head out."
