Emily

"Hurry up Emily, we're gonna be late!" Danny is practically running towards the door as I wrestle my other boot on.

I was so worried about him on his first day of school, but he was full of beans. By the time he got home, he already had five best friends and two girlfriends. I wish I had his social skills.

A couple of days later, he's now desperate to get back there.

"We won't be late." I reassure him as I get up and take his hand.

"I told Katy I would meet her at the gate." I give him a grin.

"Another girlfriend?" He looks up at me, returning my grin.

"Yup."

A tiring half hour later, I let myself back into the house. I walk into the kitchen to wash up the breakfast plates.

I'm lost in my own little world, dancing to my favourite band, with my hands in the soapy water when I hear a cough behind me. I jump and almost drop the plate I was holding. Turning around I see John stood there, smiling.

"Shit, you scared me." I feel my heart banging in my chest.

"My apologies Miss. Brown. I was just admiring your dance moves." He walks up to me and leans in. My breath catches, is he gong to kiss me? Instead he reaches over and grabs the tea towel. "I'll help."

"You don't have to do that, you've just got home."

"Honestly, I'm just hoping to see some more of your moves." He gives me that heart stopping grin again and I feel my cheeks heat up. He grabs the tea towel and begins to dry. "How's Danny doing with school?"

"Oh, he's loving it. He's already made so many friends...and he's got three girlfriends." John laughs.

"That doesn't surprise me. Mind if I tag along for pick up later?"

"Of course not, he'll be so excited to see you." We work in comfortable silence whilst my music plays in the background.

"I'm sorry about what I said on the phone the other night." His voice breaks the silence.

"It's fine. I shouldn't have messaged you in the first place. That was inappropriate." Even as I speak to him, I keep my attention on the washing up bowl. I feel him take my arm and turn me gently toward him.

"I kinda think we're past inappropriate, Emily." I blush as I look up at his piercing eyes, unable to speak. "I am sorry for what I said, but that doesn't mean it wasn't true. I'm trying to behave around you, but...it's really difficult." I'm not sure if it's the way he's looking at me, or his words, but before I know it, I wrap my still wet hands around his neck and kiss him. He is quick to respond, wrapping his arms around me and deepening the kiss.

It's urgent and desperate, our need for each other clear. He lifts me, so I'm sat on the edge of the kitchen counter. He peppers kisses down my neck and I moan.

What the hell am I doing? Exactly the thing I said I would never do again. I just can't seem to help myself around this man. As my sense returns, I pull away slightly.

"Are you okay?" His voice is full of concern.

"I'm fine, I just...I heard a rumour about you and it's been playing on my mind." He moves away slightly, helping me down.

"What was it?" He doesn't show any frustration, his voice kind.

"It was about some woman you were dating going missing?" He sits down at the kitchen table and I instantly feel guilty. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything."
