JOHN

The next couple of days fly by in a whirl of scripts, research and far too many phone calls.

It's Friday afternoon and I'm sat in my office, surrounded by papers. I've just hung up after a two hour conversation with Al, when my phone rings again.

"For fuck's sake." My frustration turns to delight when I see it's my old friend, Dean calling. I answer with a grin on my face. "Hey brother, long time no speak."

"Hey man, how are you doing? Hear we might be working together again."

"And here I was thinking it was a big secret." Dean laughs down the phone.

"You know Al can't keep a damn secret. So you coming to this meeting on Wednesday?"

"He might have talked me into it...when you heading in?"

"I land Monday night."

"Where you staying?"

"No idea, I think Sophie is taking care of it for me."

"New PA? What happened to Carla?"

"It's a long story." I resist the urge to roll my eyes. I'm surprised Carla lasted as long as she did knowing his track record.

"How about you stay here? We've got plenty of room." I make the offer without even thinking.

"You sure Maria won't mind? You know how much she hates me."

"She doesn't hate you...just thinks you're a bad influence." We both share a laugh at this. "Anyway, she'll be away on business next week, so you'll be safe."

"Cool, will I get to see my good buddy, Danny?"

"He might be with the nanny, but I'm sure you'll get the chance."

"You finally got a nanny, huh? She hot?" I clench my teeth together, beginning to regret the invite.

"Never mind what she looks like. She's good with Danny and you'll leave her alone." Just the thought of him being in the same house as Emily worries me.

"You're no fun, Hawthorne. I'll send you over my flight details and I'll see you Monday."

"Later."

He hangs up and I sit back in my chair.

Shit, did I just make a  massive mistake inviting him here? No, I've missed the guy and he's one of my best friends, he stood by me in a real shitty time and I owe him.

I'm well aware about his reputation as a womanizer, but I just hope Emily manages to see through it.

Even so, I plan on keeping him as far away from her as possible.

I decide to go for the personal touch and pick Dean up from the airport myself. So, at 9pm on a Monday night, I'm sat in an airport parking lot instead of home alone with Emily.

I haven't had the chance to spend any time with her all weekend as Maria didn't leave for her trip until first thing this morning. She didn't take the news about Dean staying too well, but as she won't be home, it didn't turn into a full blown argument...for once.

I managed to speak to Emily about it just before I left. I could see her attempting to play it cool, but the excitement was clear on her face. I feel the jealousy burning in my gut, just thinking of it.

A knock on the window startles me and I look up into the face of a grinning Dean. I get out of the car and give my old friend a hug.

"Good to see you man." I say, pulling away.
