"You loved me—then what right had you to leave me?" you read aloud from your novel, having the company once again to cherish the written words.
Taehyung sat on the ground with his back propped up against the stone bench. You occasionally glanced down at him from the pages of your book, and you admired when he would close his eyes to rest his head upon your leg as you read to him.
It was subtle. It would take someone to look closely to notice Taehyung behaving affectionately with you.
Your shoulders flinched when you heard someone from the walkway to the house call your name. Both you and Taehyung quickly whirled your heads to find a young man running toward you in an exciting sprint.
You threw your book down and launched yourself off of the bench seat. You hurried with an equal amount of enthusiasm, almost tipping the guest over once he reached you.
"Oh, Y/N! How much I have missed you," the relative said with a bright smile.
He pulled away to get a better look at you. Your hair was lightly snarled from the breeze of the day. His brown eyes squinted at the dirt of your bare feet and the bottom hem of your dress.
"I see you have not changed in the slightest." A laugh sounded in your ears, and you couldn't help but grin in response.
"Park Jimin, how you flatter me with your so-called compliments," you giggled back, holding his arms tightly in your palms.
It had been years since you had seen your cousin. He was always a bit different from the rest of your family, more like you. You were best friends growing up, almost inseparable until he had gone off for his education before you. He was older by only a couple of years, but he was a brother to you. Several people joked in the past that you were twins.
He was known around Bellreach as the town flirt with both men and women, though he was straight. He always said he loved the attention no matter who it was from, but Jimin knew he could only be with women.
His plump lips and soft voice were enough to catch anyone's attention. He was attractive and had many lovers because of it.
His jawline was perfectly angled, brought to a sharp point at his chin. His cheekbones were royally high, intensifying the bright smile he would give to just about anyone—rude or kind.
His attention diverted from you, exaggeratingly gasping at the sight of Taehyung, who awkwardly stood just a step away. He tugged at his vest in an attempt to look presentable to your cousin.
You rapidly looked away so as not to let fondness for him show.
"Is this the fiance I have heard so much about?" Jimin asked you in a hum. "He is mighty handsome. I would marry him too if I could."
