Why Monsters Come Out At Night

Chapter 1

People ask why monsters come out at night, some say cause they burn during the day, others say they don't want to be around humans, but I've always thought differently. Ever since people started going missing at night everyone blamed the monsters for their disappearances. Eight pm. That was our curfew. The everyone in Red Aker's curfew. If you were found outside past that time you would be escorted back to your home by officers and if you had the nightshift anywhere, then you had to stay inside. Somedays I would go outside past curfew and go into the woods to see the monsters from a distance. My mom was always pretty strict about going outside past curfew especially after my dad went missing and I knew I would be six feet in the grave if they found out I came out here at night. Most of them consisted of vampires, witches, and werewolves just to name a few and most of them lived just outside of Red Aker, I never thought they were all bad, but I had never talked to one so I would have never known until one day this all changed.

Time - 4:55pm

Location - Lilith's house

"Lillith, we have to go in a few minutes!" yelled my mother from downstairs. If you didn't get this, my name is Lillith Evergreen, I'm fifteen years old, and I'm the rouge, everyone calls me because I'm the only one that wants to talk to a monster.

"I'm coming, just give me a second!" I was wearing a black sweatshirt with some jeans with my black hair in a ponytail and my glasses over my green eyes. I was going to my best friend Raven's House to hang out for a few days since it was summer break. We got to her house and a crowd of maybe ten people was standing outside talking as I got out of the car.

"Remember, don't-" my mom got cut off.

"Don't go outside past the curfew, I know mom I'll be fine," I informed her.

"I know you'll be fine just reminding you. Don't let me find out you went out past curfew."

"I promise I'll be inside by curfew now can I go?"

"Yes, I'll go," she said as she started the car and drove off. 

I went to go find Raven within the crowd. I saw my other friends Nali, Lucifer, and Seth and walked over to them. Nali was in the normal teacher's pet uniform, flannel button-up shirt, shorts, glasses, and a bowtie with dark brown hair and eyes. Lucifer was just in a t-shirt and ripped jeans with his long brown hair and blue eyes talking to his best friend Seth who was in an anime sweatshirt and shorts and had green eyes and almost black hair.

"Hey guys, have you seen Raven anywhere?" I asked.

"Oh yeah, she's inside the house," answered Seth as he pointed to the front door.

"Thanks, Seth," I said, walking to the door to find Raven. I saw her in the living room talking to her parents that were about to leave for a business trip. "Rav!!!" I yelled.

"Lillith!!!" she yelled as she ran up to me and hugged me. "What's up my friend?"

"Not much you?" I asked.

"Same. this is gonna be the best week ever!"

Time - 7:00pm

Location - Red Aker woods

An hour till curfew and we were still outside behind Raven's home, her family owned a lot of land out there and made trails through there, it was starting to get dark out and we were told not to go past curfew.

"Hey guys, it's getting dark outside. Shouldn't we start heading back?" Nali asked with a slightly terrified look.

"I was thinking we should stay out past curfew," Raven said.

"What!!" Seth, Nali, and Lucifer yelled.

"Hear me out. We've never been outside past curfew and none of us have even seen a monster, except Lillith, but regardless I don't think we have to worry about them they don't seem all bad." Raven stated.
