Amelia moved in with Derek days after her hospital visit. She loved her brother and was glad he took her away from their mother, but it pained her to be away from Arizona. Arizona was the only person who truly ever cared for her that wasn't Derek. She loved Arizona. The two fell in love but were too scared to admit until Amelia had to live in Seattle.

Amelia had a rough start in Seattle. She became depressed because she missed Arizona. She hated Seattle even though it was the place she longed to be in ever since she moved to LA. Now she didn't know where she wanted to be. She wanted to be with Arizona, the love of her life, but she could never do that to her family. No matter how many times Arizona said it was fine she could never take her up on it. She could never impose on her family like that. Amelia became depressed while in Seattle and started using drugs. She stopped texting Arizona. Derek and Meredith finally figured out Amelia was using and tried to help her, but no matter how hard they tried Amelia couldn't stop. Amelia got sent to rehab for a few months and came out clean, but all she could think of was Arizona, how she let her go and never knew how to start a conversation again.

Arizona never knew what happened to Amelia. All of a sudden she started acting weird, and she stopped texting. Arizona tried for weeks to call and text, but had no idea Amelia was in rehab. Months went by and Arizona felt she had to give up. Maybe Amelia found someone else. She probably did Arizona though. Arizona thought she was the prettiest girl in the world and knew someone else would think that about her too.

Arizona didn't hear of Amelia until years later, when she became a neurosurgeon like her brother Derek. Arizona was a surgeon too, a pediatric and fetal surgeon. She saw that Derek had published a paper on brain waves and realized Amelias name was on the paper too, and there was a picture of the two of them in the lab. Arizona felt some relief knowing this, because for years she feared Amelia was dead. She never knew if she was suicidal, but Arizona knew she could never rule it out. It had been her worst fear for years that Amelia took her own life and that's why she never texted back. Seeing that Derek and Amelia worked at the same hospital, Arizona knew where her next stop was.
