"Sofia, baby girl? Wake up Hunny." A faint woman's voice whispered.
"My love, I can only help you if you hear me." The woman continued."Hmmm." Hummed Sofia.
"My dear Sofia, how I've missed you. I am so proud of you as I lay here above, watching over you." Maria comforted.Maria was Sofia's mother's name. It was also supposed to be Sofia's name but was compromised into Sofia. Maria missed out on a lifetime of cries, laughs, meaningless fights, hugs. All she could do was sit above, and watch her daughter go through life herself...
"I've been with you this whole time, trust your gut, my love. People aren't as they seem. Open your eyes and notice it." Maria warned as she caressed Sofia's cheek.
"I love you Sofia, always and forever. But it is time for me to go, I will be back soon don't you worry." She whispered kissing her forehead goodbye. As she faded away, Sofia had woken up.
*GASP*
It was the next morning and Sofia had woken up in Matteo's bed. She had remembered everything from her dream last night and contemplated if the dream was just a dream, or if it actually happened. Regardless, she took her mother's words to heart and became more aware.
SOFIA
It had been weeks after Matteo and I said we loved each other. Those weeks were passion-filled and genuine love. It was nothing like the love Sebastian and I had for each other. This time, it felt right. As if it was meant to happen... like it was our destiny. I would worry for him from time to time, but I knew what I was getting myself into when I decided to date a mafia leader. That doesn't mean I can't still worry about what actually happens.
"How was your sleep mi amour?" Matteo asked as he carried in my breakfast.
"Aw, you brought me breakfast? Where is this coming from? Did you cheat on me? I swear to god. Matteo it has literally been twenty-four hours, I will kill you!" I spiralled."What God no! Relax mi Mariposa." He giggled.
"Mariposa? That's a new one, what does that mean?"
"It means my butterfly. Every time you walk into a room you give me butterflies."
"How sweet. Look who's becoming a big softy, haha."
"I am not. I am not a softy." He said as he scrunched his face up.
"Mhm, whatever you say, Mr. Sanchez."
"Oh say that again." He smiled.
"Mr. Sanchez."
"K, now give me a kiss." He grinned as he pulled my chin inwards.
Life with Matteo filled me up in ways I couldn't explain. The way he makes me feel, it's unexplainable...
"Listen." I said pulling away from his lips.
"Do you have to ruin the moment right now?" He asked."I worry about you, babe." I said.
"What are you talking about? I'm fine mi amour." He replied confused.
"No, I know. I'm just talking about when you're out in your mafia business, It's hard to not worry that something bad would happen to you."
"You don't have to worry about me, I know how to protect myself Mariposa." Matteo said as he exposed his handgun out from the back of his jeans towards me.
"I just have a bad feeling about today." I said. "Hmm, you know...a man who can handle a gun is pretty hot." I smirked while biting my lips.
"Oh yeah?" He asked leaning closer to me.
"Yes indeed." I smiled while closing my eyes as my lips met his."Alright Chica, I have to go." Matteo said leaning off me. Ugh, why did he have to do that!
"Oh no, why so soon, I was enjoying this!" She groaned.
"You do remember I run a mafia right?", he giggled. "Go back to bed after you've eaten, you'll need some energy for tonight because I'm taking you out."
"Ohhh! My first date with Mr. Sanchez?" She laughed softly."You know, you make it so hard to leave this bed when you say that to me."
"Well Mr. Sanchez, that is the whole point." She whispered. "Okay fine, go! Just don't do anything stupid.""No guarantees my love."
"MATTEO!" Sofia yelled.
"Okay, okay I promise I won't."AUTHOR
"What to do, what to do?", Sofia asked as she roamed Matteo's room. She later found herself snooping through his things. Sofia knew she shouldn't, but was also so intrigued to know what Matteo hides. She found some photos, letters, and a journal. "Oooh, Matteo's diary." She laughed.
Suddenly gunshots were made, and screams were yelled. Sofia could feel her heart beating right out of her chest, she had to move quickly so she hid behind the loveseat just in front of his bed. For a moment, everything went black and blurry. Her breathing was minimal and heavy as if she were drowning underwater. The loud but gentle footsteps are what brought her back to reality. The footsteps got louder and louder as they reached Matteo's room. She tried so hard to not breathe so heavily, it could be anyone.
"Yeah, I'm in now." A man whispered over the phone as he slowly crept his way inside Matteo's room.
"No, nobody suspected anything, I'm supposed to be his best friend remember?"
"I recognize that voice...is that?" Sofia asked herself not wanting to admit who she thought the man was. "It couldn't be." She continued.
"Sebastian?" Sofia gasped as she covered her mouth with her hand.
Sofia quickly tried to grab her phone, but it had been across the room charging on the floor beside the bed. She could barely reach the whole phone but could manage to text with one finger. She had time to reach Matteo's number and type one word before the footsteps came. Sofia knew that she couldn't move without making any noise, so she tried reaching it with a pillow cushion.
"Uuuughhh." Sofia grunted as she reached for her phone. She tried so hard to not make a sound, but the fear was overwhelming.
(ay hold on, there is someone in here)
"Ay espera, hay alguien aqui." Sebastian said as he crept his way towards the couch.
"Shit." Sofia whispered as she accidentally dropped the pillow from her hand.
"Oh no no no, Sofia we must stop meeting like this." Sebastian said as he knelt down in front of me, smacking his tongue off the top of his mouth.
Before she knew it, he was grabbing the back of her neck and pulling her from out behind the couch. "Please, Sebastian don't hurt me!" He cried.
"Something about him has changed, he is not the man I once loved before." Sofia thought to herself.
"I've handled the boys downstairs boss, we don't have much time until Matteo gets back." Victoria said as she swung in the doorway.
"Victoria?!" Sofia said, dazed.
"Oh boss what is this? I thought you said she isn't to be harmed." Victoria asked grinning.
"Change of plans my love, she will be useful to us."
"Boss? My love?" Sofia asked with confusion.
As Sofia kicked and screamed for her freedom, Victoria dragged her down from the room and into the back of a car. Sofia was once again, back where she started. In the back of a car, scared for her life, trembling, confused. She thought the same things she did before, but this time she was well educated. She pushed all of her emotions to the very back of her mind and only focused on getting the hell out of the situation.
She knew she could use her history with Sebastian to get out. If only Sofia played her cards right, she could manipulate him into letting her go.
