The duo touched down to the ground, and quickly folded their wings to their backs.
Walking underneath the arch, Ventus pointed to something.
"Aww! Lot at that one!"
"Which one? There's so many!"
"That one right there!"
She let go of Oreo's talons, and ran over to the small pen.
"How many times have I told you Ventus, we're not going to buy a pet here. You agreed that we would go look."
"I knowwwww but-"
"No buts."
"Hmmmmph."
Ventus pouted, and walked away from the pen.
"Can I play with one of them?"
Oreo sighed, "Fine."
She yipped and ran over.
"Why- did you JUST BARK?"
Ventus blatantly ignored her.
The small swarm of puppies attacked her. Covering her in wet kisses.
"Aw! Come on Oreo! Lighten up a bit!"
"No."
"Don't tell me that you're still scared of dogs."
She crossed her arms and scoffed, "I am NOT afraid of dogs."
"You used to be-that's why you didn't want to come here. We are getting a dog."
"We have two kids at home."
"Leo is not a dog! How dare you!"
"I didn't mean it that way-we just don't need to teach anything else."
Ventus snickered, and turned her attention back to the puppies.
"Venti, I'm going to get something to eat. I'll be back."
"Oh? Alright. See you when you get back," As soon as Oreo disappeared, Ventus smiled, and held up the smallest of the puppies, "Don't worry. You're coming home with me."
It whimpered and yipped, then licked her again.
----
"Venti?"
"Yes Oreo-You're back!"
"Yes. I am back. It's time to go. We have to pick up Blitz from school."
Ventus stood up, and held the small aussie puppy to Oreo.
"Look at how cute she is!"
"ACK-"
She turned, and started to run, then hid behind the nearest tree.
The puppy whimpered, and stumbled after her.
Oreo's horns poked out, and her ears flicked back and forth. The pup fell forward, and looked up at her.
"She wants you to hold her Oreo-"
"I'm not touching her."
Ventus closed her eyes, and waved her hand over her face, "You like foxes."
"Foxes are different."
She gently swished her tail, and walked over to Oreo, "Not that much really Dogs are just domesticated descendants of foxes and wolves,"
She hesitated, and stepped out from the tree.
"I'll hold her, but she's not coming home with us."
She giggled, and picked up the puppy.
"Here Oreo!"
Oreo started shaking; but as soon as the puppy was in her arms, it licked her face. Oreo stopped trembling, and her eyes widened. She tilted her head, and looked down at the fluffy bundle.
"I'll admit, she's pretty cute."
"See what you've been missing?!"
Oreo sighed, and sat down.
----
They played with her for a few hours, but it was finally getting dark..
"Hey Oreo, I have to go do something, I'll meet you out by the entrance."
"Okie dokie."
Ventus turned to leave, and Oreo started back to the puppy corral.
As she set the puppy back down on the ground, it yipped sympathetically at her. Something tugged at Oreo's heartstrings, and she picked her up again.
"You're the only dog I'm even going to have. You better not run away when we get home."
She signed the adoption papers, and waved to the shelter worker.
"Now you take good care of her."
"Don't worry. We will; she will be loved."
Gently holding the puppy in her arms, she flew out to meet Ventus.
"Hey Ore-"
She held out the puppy, then turned her head away and blushed.
"Here."
"You adopted her?!"
She nodded, "Now you're going to train her!"
Ventus wagged her tail and grinned.
"I will! You're not going to regret adopting her! They kids will have so much fun!"
"Yes!"
"What do you think Stella?"
Stella yipped excitedly, and they both smiled.
"I think she likes it!"
