Best Friends are people who make your problems their problems just so you don't have to go through them alone. - Anonymous

"YOU ARE FIRED!"

The young staff burst into tears as Martinez uttered those words.

"Pl-ease, sir. Give me another chance."

"No! You have used up your last strike. Get your things and leave!" A vein worked in Martinez's jaw as he spewed fire on the tearful staff.

Tara silently stepped out of her office as she heard the commotion take place. She took her place next to Alice on the sidelines of the scene.

Other staff gathered around as well. Shock and fear was a mutual expression everyone shared.

Whispers floated around as they watched their colleague get roasted by their savage boss.

"What's going on?" She asked Alice in a low tone.

"He has been behaving like a savage since he arrived. He has fired two people and has placed three people on suspension." Alice whispered.

Tara raised a brow in confusion and shock. "Why would he do that?"

"It's only God that knows. And that's just half of it. Can you imagine? He asked Mr. Angelo and Mrs. Ade not to interfere."

"That's crazy. They have rights over who works here."

"Yes, they do. But, in the partnership contract, each person has a right over a percentage of the employees."

"Oh wow! That's weird." Tara's eyebrows scrunched up as she tried to fathom what Martinez was up to.

She glanced sideways and watched Mrs. Ade and Mr. Angelo talk among themselves. Mr. Angelo turned and glared daggers at Martinez, who was bursting with unconcealed anger.

"Agnes, why are you here? Don't you have something to do?" He yelled at his PA, whose face turned red like a tomato.

"Sorry, sir," she muttered and scurried off; almost tripping on her shoes.

"I swear; if this is his true nature, so I declare that my crush on him has gone." Alice raised her chin. "I do not wish to have anything to do with such a sociopath."

"Well, again, I am happy for you. You don't know what you would have gone through if you got involved with him." Tara said as she looked ahead with a faraway stare.

"What would I have gone through?" Alice asked with furrowed brows.

"His destructive ways would burn you and the scars would never fade. Because he will keep inflicting more wounds." Tara's eyes grew dark as she spoke.

Alice gasped and shook Tara into reality. "Oh, my gosh! Tara, what are you saying?"

Tara's distant expression cleared as she realized what she unconsciously said. She shuffled on her feet. "Oh no. Don't mind me. My imagination got the better of me, especially with what we just witnessed." She gave a nervous laugh.

Alice narrowed her eyes at her and proclaimed, "You are hiding something from me. What you let out has nothing to do with your imagination."

"Of course not. I am not hiding anything." She avoided eye contact with her friend.

"Yes, you are!" Alice raised her voice.

"No, I am not. And keep your voice down. Don't let the beast hear and come attacking."

"Okay. Fine. Come with me." Alice took Tara's hand and pulled her along.

"Where are you taking me?" Tara asked as she struggled to free herself.
