"Yo Lisa! Let's go out!" Karina said coming at me from behind giving me a back hug
"Owww..Karina, why do you have to be so rough?"
"Oh please, you're such a Drama Queen. Anyways let's go and see a movie or something, Giselle and Winter are coming, Ning-Ning too and she's bringing her Guy Friend with her" She said then she let go of me giggling-nudging her shoulder gently with mine
"Karina, It's Thursday, It's a school night and I already told you I can't go out after school, I have a lot of things to do and-"
"Aww Come on Lisa! You always say 'No' whenever we invite you, how rude and So what if it's Thursday? we're not gonna go out drinking dude"
"It's not like my excuse isn't legit, I have a full time job and I can't miss a day or else I'll be in trouble"
"What do you do anyway? If you don't mind me asking. I've been curious about what's keeping you busy after school" She asked me with a raised eyebrow
I contemplated wether or not I should tell her, but there wasn't any point of lying to her either so I decided to just tell the truth and get it over with already.
"**sigh**I'm sort of like a Housekeeper" I said a bit embarrassed
The students that attend the Dominican-aside from the fact that they're all competitive and Brainy, are also really loaded. So me, attending this school and not having a Wealthy Family Background is unheard of
Although they do offer Scholarships to a few lucky students, they most likely belong to an Upper Middle Class Family with Small but Thriving Businesses.
"Ahh. I see, sorry for pointing this out but why do you look uncomfortable about it?"
"What do you mean why? Isn't it obvious?"
Karina just shook her head
"No. Not really, Lisa..But Feel Free to Enlighten me 'cos I for real don't have any clue"
I looked at her and try to read her facial expression, still waiting for an answer.
It doesn't look like she's faking her curiosity, It just really looks like she wants to know so I decided to tell her about the insecurities that I have regarding my social status
No Harm, No Foul.
"I mean, you guys are super rich and super smart while I'm just here being all average and poor. I know it's shallow and I try not to obsess about it but it just gets to me sometimes"
Karina stopped walking which caused me to do the same, she then looked at me and gave me a warm smile while putting a hand on my right shoulder
"Listen, you don't need to be embarrassed about anything okay? You're here at The Dominican for a reason, and that's to get Quality Education so you can get out there in the Real Word- ready to be a Real Adult. Don't worry about what others think, trust me on this, most of the students here don't even care about that shit, maybe the simple-minded ones but not us. We're friends, and We're here for you-so let's enjoy the freedom that we have now while we can, Arraseo?"
I was speechless at what Karina said to me, I've only known her for a short amount of time but she treats me no different like how she treats her best friend Winter and her other two long-time friends Ning-Ning and Giselle.
