Varian sighed softly, a small smile gracing his face as he looked out to the trees beside him. Today was a day that he had been waiting for. He was finally going home! Hugo was even coming with him!
The trials had been complete, and Varian had met his mother and been possessed by her for a short time, too. He had gotten a bright blue, swirly scar along his left cheek to prove it. Hugo sat beside the ravenette, his shoulders tensed with stress over meeting Varian's friends and immediate family. Turning to face his boyfriend, Varian giggled slightly, resting his head on the blond's shoulder. "Don't worry, my mercury. You'll do great! They're gonna love you, I swear!"
Giving a weak chuckled, Hugo laid his cheek on the top of Varian's head. "Yeah, I know, but that doesn't stop me from worrying. What if they find out about my past, and keep you away from me? What if they think I'm a bad person and they kick me out? What if I make a bad first impression and they make something up to put me in prison?! What if-" Varian cut him off with a soft kiss on his lips.
Pulling back with a gentle smile. "For once, I know you're overthinking this. If my friends love me like they say they do, then they'll trust you. If they try to pull anything over you, tell me and we will leave and go see Nuru and Yong instead!" Varian slowed the cart to a stop and brought his hands up to cup his lover's cheeks. Brushing his gloved thumbs over faint scars that made his heart ache, he leaned in to plant a kiss on a pale nose. "I love you, my peach. If you don't feel comfortable, then I'll do anything to make it better, okay?"
Hugo blushed before he laughed, planting kisses up along Varian's arms before their lips met. "Okay, I trust you, hair-stripe. Now, let's get there before we make too many plans, huh?"
The two laughed as Prometheus started once more, the castle barely in view as they rode along.
As the gates came into view, the anxiety that had been held by Hugo earlier that day had transferred to Varian. With his leg bouncing, the raven-haired teen talked to one of the guards, trying to get through.
"I'm telling you, I'm a friend of the queens!"
The guard shook his head again. "Sorry, kid. No citizens allowed inside the gates outside of the normal hours."
The younger teen frowned, turning to glance at Hugo before sighing. "I'm the royal alchemist, Varian. I'm not a normal citizen, I work in the castle. Will you let me in or no?"
Both guards seemed to freeze before scrambling to open the gate. "S-Sorry, sir! So sorry for the misunderstanding! Please, go right through!"
Nodding at Hugo with a grin, the two led their donkey through the gates. Green eyes surveyed their surroundings in awe. " Wow , this is... so much cooler than I thought it'd be."
Taking the blond's hand, he dragged them all towards the royal stables. Handing Prometheus' lead to the stable boy. "Take care of him, please?"
The boy nodded, bringing the donkey around before the two lovers started towards the castle. Taking Hugo's hand, he squeezed it lightly. Bright blue looked into emerald green. "It's time... You ready?"
Hugo looked up and let out a shaky breath. "I'm ready as I'll ever be, I guess."
Nodding, Varian lead the way to the throne room, where the queen would hopefully be waiting. Entering the large room, Varian heard Hugo gasp loudly. It was brighter than it had been when he left, so he could understand the astonishment.
"Varian? Is that you?!"
The mentioned teen looked up just in time to be met with arms around his waist and brown hair in his mouth. Rapunzel spun him around, laughing loudly as Eugene and Hugo stood off to the side. The brunette set her friend down, patting his arms lightly with a small giggle. "It's so nice to see you again, Varian! We were wondering when you'd come to visit!"
