Under the moonlight.

Part 6: Happiness and infidelity.

The following morning Adrien was feeling profoundly happy. It had been a long time since the last time he had felt this calm. And in Luka's arms he had felt so safe. He didn't recall ever having felt so safe.

Luka was still sleeping. So, very carefully, so as not to wake him up, Adrien stretched till he reached Luka's phone. He wanted to keep a memory of that moment and how he was feeling.
Being very careful of not showing Luka, he took a selfie and sent it to his number. He deleted the message and it was then he noticed what time it was. Hurriedly he returned the phone to its place and went to the bathroom to get the rest of his clothes.

Luka woke up with Chat's hand softly caressing the side of his face.

"What? What's up?" Luka asked, still disoriented.
Seeing Chat Noir face, he recalled what happened the night before and he smiled too.

"I have to go. It won't be long before someone goes to check on me at my bedroom." Chat said, giving him a quick kiss.

"Until tonight." Luka said, combing Chat's hair with his fingers.

Chat Noir kissed his hand and exited the room. He stood frozen right outside the door when he saw Luka's mother at the end of the hall. He was able to breath again when he saw she was only passing by and was still mostly asleep, so she didn't become aware of his presence. Rapidly Chat exited the houseboat.

On his way home he was happy, the world seemed to be a new one. He felt like singing, he wanted to play with everything that crossed his path, he wanted to dance over the rooftops. He launched himself upward with the help from his staff. He felt the wind against his face as he was flying through the sky. He laughed out loud as he landed on the rooftop of a tall building.

"Wow. Someone's in a really good mood."

Surprised, he turned around and found Ladybug was a few steps away from him.
"Ladybug..." Chat Noir said, feeling guilty about how he had spoken to her the last time he saw her.

"What got into you now to bring this new change?" Ladybug asked.

Chat Noir blushed and laughed goofily, hugging his face with his hands. Ladybug looked at him surprised.

"I'm sorry. I apologize for my behavior that day, I... I was in a terrible place." Chat said. Unconsciously his right hand stroked his left arm, while his right foot played with an imaginary rock on the floor.

"But I'm feeling much better now! I'm taking this new remedy based on snake's tongue that is doing marvels for me." Chat said with a wide smile on his face.

"Snake's tongue... Uggg! Chat Noir! That is disgusting!" Ladybug said.

"Yeah, a couple of weeks ago I would had thought that too. But now I'm just finding it so... delicious." Chat said with stars in his eyes.

"Ok..." Ladybug said slowly and also a bit nervous. "But I do feel happy to see you happy again." She added with a smile.

"Thank you Ladybug! See you soon!" Chat Noir said right before launching himself again to the sky.

"How odd. He didn't start getting all romantic nor tried to hug me. Mmm..." Ladybug shrugged and went away too.

Miss Bustier breathed calmly again at seeing Adrien so happy that day. Everyone noticed the change in his mood, particularly at a moment when the teacher had forgotten something and he offered to go pick it up for her. He jumped up and swiftly reached the door, humming a love song he twirled and exited the classroom.

"Guys..." Miss Bustier said to Alya, Nino and Marinette. "I have no idea how you did it, but I can relax now. Thanks for helping out your friend."

"Actually, we didn't have a chance to do anything. This... just happened." Alya said.

"I don't know what it is. I can't put my finger on it. There's something still not clicking in my head, but there's something here that is not right. That is making me very anxious." Marinette said.

"Do you think he might fall back into depression?" The teacher asked.

"No,... It's not that. I'll just go ahead with my plan to find out what happened. Just in case." Marinette replied.

"Oh girl... I hope you won't get in troubles from playing detective." Alya said right before Adrien came back into the classroom.

Lessons were finally over for the day and the four friends were walking towards the exit when they came across Juleka, Rose and Luka.
Adrien noticed how things were still a bit awkward between Marinette and Luka.

"Well guys, I need to leave you. I've got a photoshoot at the Boulanger woods. Besides, I'm seeing Kagami first and knowing her, she's gonna be very punctual." Adrien said.

Marinette found strange an expression she saw for a second crossing Adrien's face as he mentioned the name of Kagami. It resembled fear.

"Umm... Adrien?" Luka said. "Could I talk with you for a moment? It won't take longer than a couple of minutes."

"Sure. What is it about?" Adrien asked.

"It's something personal, could we discuss it in private?" Luka said, looking towards one of the empty classrooms.

Intrigued, Adrien said goodbye to their friends and walked to the classroom Luka had pointed.
"What's up buddy?" Adrien asked calmly, even though on the inside he was very excited about talking with his Luka without him knowing he was actually Chat Noir.

"I guess you've heard Marinette and I broke up..." Luka asked.

Adrien nodded.

"That happened because there's someone else in my life. Someone I deeply fell in love with." Luka continued.

Adrien felt his heart beating faster from the excitement. He leaned against the teacher's desk, discreetly grabbing it strongly to prevent himself from hugging Luka.

"But, I have a little problem..." Luka said with his eyes on the ground.

"What is it?" Adrien asked, starting to feel concerned.

"Adrien... I think you are a very attractive guy. I love the way you are. And..." Luka confessed.

"Thank you!" Adrien said blushing. "Wait,... WHAT?!"

"I think I may be in love with you." Luka said, avoiding looking at him straight in the eyes.

"No,... I... you... but... yo-you said you are with someone!" Adrien said.

"Yeah, well... I may be in love with the two of you at the same time. I don't know. It's just..." Luka said, looking a bit desperate as he was approaching Adrien. "I know that can't be. That's why I'm here right now."

Adrien wanted to fall back. Put some distance, but he was trapped between Luka and the desk behind him.

"I need to get out of my doubts and know who I truly love." Luka said right before hastily getting his face close to Adrien's and kissing him by surprise.

Adrien didn't know what to do. He wanted to give in, but in theory Luka was being unfaithful to him. Unfaithful even if it was with himself. Unfaithful because Luka didn't know Adrien and Chat Noir were the same person.
