Salt.

I could only taste salt.

It clung to the roof of my mouth and the inner sides of my cheeks. I spat, wanting the foul sting to go away.

I squeezed my eyes hard, hard enough to see dancing colours and light. I re-opened them to see flames licking the room.

I could no longer smell anything, and my breathing became laboured. The smoke was affecting my lungs. Bad.

I tried to move again. Nothing. Pain stuck some areas of my body, but some that hurt before, did nothing. Nothing.

I took the time to scan as much of the area as possible, straining to see through the thicken flames and smoke. I zeroed in on a spherical item.

It was bubbling, but how? It warped and charred in the intense fire.

Plastic.

It was plastic.

A red, plastic sphere.

What is it doing here? Why does it deserve to be trapped, like me?
