What's so special about Ocala anyway? All there is was skinny people tanning anywhere possible, while the guys worked out to get muscles so big, they wouldn't be able to scratch their brainless heads. And don't get me started about the sun. God, the sun. It was bad enough I had to deal with it every summer but now 24/7, 365 days a year will make me commit suicide. Just thinking about it made my skin felt as if it were overwhelmed by that stupid ball of burning helium out there in space.
Back in Jersey, as a junior, I had plenty of friends, all the teachers knew me and life was so perfect. However, my parents decided to pack up our life -my life- and move us to a place where Mickey Mouse's face was plastered on everything. I had to leave everything I loved that couldn't be replaced by some Ocala, Florida.
My book almost fell as I realized I had become so deep in thought, I had actually come to a stop. Two beach-blond girls who were dressed as if they were going to the beach and wore sunglasses that covered half their gaunt faces, almost trampled me to the ground. As I dodged them some over sized jock smashed into me, sending my books to the tile floor. He flew through the crowd with some scrawny blond on his arm. Frustrated, I sighed and bent to pick up my text, mumbling to myself, "just one more year."
Fitting in was like hell, especially if you have pale skin and dark hair in this tanned city. You can't be someone like me in Vanguard High. I might not have the so-called "beach body," and I definitely wasn't the type of girl to lose her virginity in freshman year.
I focused my gray eyes and found my locker before I got trampled again. As I shoved my text book to grab my chemistry book, the bell rang, signaling I was late to class. I sighed heavily. Being a girl that used to be in the snow all day long was tough being around people that loved sand.
As I turned the corner, I crashed into another student of the male persuasion. I immediately got a face full of black shirt and not only did my books fall to the ground, I went with them. I quickly tried to scoop up my books, not expecting this kid to stop and help me. As I reached for my chemistry book, my hand met his. I looked to see a stunning face.
His eyes were beautiful, piercing blue that matched the exact shade of the sky. I cursed slightly for allowing myself to get so distracted. His face was perfect. His rosey pink cheeks added to his facial structure. His jawline was smooth, flawless, one perfect flowing line. He had stubble of facial hair like he hadn't shaved for a few days.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't even see where-" I cut him off. "It's okay, I wasn't paying much attention either." I chuckled at how he was actually kind enough to apologize. He slowly slid the book out from under my hand and stood up."I'm really sorry about that." He said still holding my book. "It's okay. Thank you for helping by the way." I said in a nervous, quiet voice. "It's no problem." He replied, chuckling and rubbing the back of his neck.
I did have to admit, I felt a little odd at being so fascinated with a complete stranger. "Can I? Uh, walk you to class?" Him? A boy so strangely pretty, wanted to walk me to class? He's just being nice, I bet. "Sure." I said as I looked down to my feet.
He had asked me the typical questions like where I'm from and things of that sorts. I'd look up at him a few times and I couldn't find anything wrong with him. Not one single flaw from the broad expanse of his chest and shoulders that were currently covered in a Blink-182 shirt, to his rosey pink cheeks.
Finally, we reached my classroom and our fun had to come to an end. "Well, thank you for walking me." I chuckled as I checked the time on my phone. The bell had rung eight minutes ago and the past two weeks I'd never was late to class. "Hey! You kids get to class!" One of the security guards yelled at us. "That means I should go." He handed me my textbook back and stuck his hands down his pockets. "Maybe I'll see you sometime, uh-" "Charlotte. Charlotte Rose." He stuck his hand out for me to shake. "I'm Kevin Skaff, nice to meet you." I shook his hand and looked down as I accidentally squeezed his hand. He chuckled slightly. He reached for the door the same time I did and our hands met once again. I quickly pulled mine back as he opened the door for me. Such a gentleman. "Thanks, see you later." I giggled. "See ya." He said as his rubbed the back of his neck and walked down the hall, slowly disappearing.
