Nick let out a relieved sigh as as the flickering light above them turned on. His gaze focused on Carly to see if she was alright and as she nodded he motioned her to follow him.
Placing one foot in front of the other one he quietly made his way down the dim hallway, Carly behind him determinedly clutching the bat in her hands.
An orange glow illuminated the narrow mine in front of them. It led them to a big room filled with weird looking structures and so many candles.
Carly stopped in her tracks as she admired the room. This had to be Vincent's workshop.
Nearly everything was coated in a layer of paraffin wax, even the ceiling. A small radio on a candle covered table played the same aria she heard earlier in Bo's car.
The only electrical light in the whole room got emitted by a small lamp on a working desk in the corner. A small vase with different wild flowers decorated said desk and multiple sketches of flowers and human bodies were splattered all over.
The floor was covered in grids to let fluids flow through. The inner space of the room was made up by an operating table and a small pile of tools Carly had never seen before.
A red football cap laid next to the utensils and Carly's stomach tightened as she realised who it belonged too.
Her brother recognized the red clothing item as well and grasped it in his hands.
"Dalton", he whispered softly as his eyes searched the room for any sort of indication where his friend might be. His gaze fell on a weird frame next to the desk. It consisted out of multiple tubes leading to a seat in the middle of the construction. The tubes were connected to a huge pot hanging over a fire. Inside the pot simmered a brown mixture that Nick recognized as paraffin wax.
A bunch of needles seemed to penetrate the waxen figure inside the construction. Nick slowly stepped towards the frame.
"Nick.", Carly called out, concerned as to what they might find inside their latest discovery.
Nick ignored her call and continued to walk towards what he thought to be his best friend. Carly followed him quietly, bat softly swinging in her hand.
Her brothers eyes started to tear up as he recognized the lifeless bright blue eyes in the waxen cover. He softly reached out to touch Dalton's cheek. Carly stopped in her tracks as she realised her brothers discovery as well and tears started to dwell in her already reddened eyes.
"I'll get you out of there", Nick exclaimed weakly with a broken voice. He grasped the iron tubes around Dalton's Head and started to pull. Daltons wax covered head came off with a loud snap, the rusty construction still sticking to it.
The young man quickly let go of his best friends head and tried his best to stop the tears in his eyes. He averted his fearful gaze and turned around to face his sister. "No!", Carly cried out as her hand moved up to cover her mouth, "No, Nick...". She stepped forward and grasped her brother's jacket, turning him to face her completely. "Nick, please.", she sobbed as she stifled her sobs in his jacket while wrapping her arms around her brothers upper body.
Nicks shocked stare moved to Dalton's body once again and he wrapped his arms protectively around the shoulders of his smaller sister.
